Savage Accu Trigger craps out

Spook

Captured too late to be fully domesticated.
Six shots into a match and the Accu trigger on my Savage target action wont hold the sear? Had it on and off the action half a dozen times and adjusted every possible direction, still wont allow the sear to catch. Anyone else had a problem or heard rumors?

There is a condition with these actions. The bolt has to be closed very easy everytime. It will not cock if it is closed too hard. I own one of the new F class Target rifles and it works fine as long as you close the bolt easy. I think this is a built in feature from Savage. Hope this helps. Bill

Bill, Thanks. I was aware of the "easy close " issue. It is normally solved by adding a little pull weight. Needless to say I'll be on the phone Monday ......

Spook,

I'd say you are on the right path calling the factory... between four team rifles we have probably over 8000rds thru the Target Accutrigger... it is a little touchy for people who don't always pull straight, absolutely straight) back or who slap the bolt handle down. Sounds like you've eliminated those, so time to call the experts.

The only insight I can offer is on a previous Savage w/ a target trigger,non-factory, but the general lay out of the parts is more or less the same) I had a problem extremely similar to what you describe... the cocking tab/bolt release would just follow the bolt handle down a good deal of the time. There was a very long ugly story behind that, but the Cliff Notes version is that there was an inletting issue where the stock was binding on the trigger so some parts didn't catch when they should, etc. Suddenly manifested itself out of the blue on a very wet day,the wood in that area hadn't been re-sealed after inletting), which made troubleshooting somewhat tricky.

Good luck,

Monte

Seems as the problem is in the little red "tickler" blade that goes through the center of the trigger. I took the trigger apart and reassembled it without the tickler and it works better than it ever did... I can close the bolt with considerable vigor and it doesnt trip the trigger? Still has a light pull. I was always under the impression that removing the blade disabled the trigger's function. Oh well wish I'da known this yesterday...could have finished the match.
