Savage 6mmBr question

What can I really expect with a factory Savage Model 12 "F" class 6mmBr? I mean what are you guys really grouping at 100-1000 yards with this gun? I know what I'm getting, and I just want to compare my results. Be honest, pleeeeeese.....

I have a 6BR 12F that shoots pretty well. It is not close to my Stiller Viper SS but it cost about 1/3 the Stiller. The attached image is pretty typical at 300 on a tricky range with switching winds. Sierra 107 molys at ~2980. Obviously, the groups would be smaller if there were no wind. The range is in some hills and has no wind flags. The target is a PDF I made of the MR63-CF for 300. It is worth noting that the Savage is holding the 10-ring in tricky conditions.

The second image was shot yesterday with the Stiller on a similar target at the same range. The difference is obvious. The Stiller has fired a number of 100 yard groups under .125". The Savage will get to .3-.4.

Mine shoots smaller groups at 2700 fps than faster. Bummer. The first 300 or so rounds would average 1" to 1 1/2" groups at 200 (1/2 to 3/4 MOA), but that was on a very good day. Now it shoots a little better. I have tried lots of different bullets, (berger, hornady, ect). It seems to like those Hornady 105's the best, but only by a hairs margin. I did manage to shoot a .917" group at 300 one day but that was a once in a lifetime thing for me.

Shot410,
My son has a model 12 varmint forgot model # 6br in 1:12 with 65 gr v-max @3550 fps it will fairly steady shoot in the .3s @ 100yds.
Last night just before dark,3+ mph winds raining fairly heavy 36* he shot two five shot groups in a row @ 300 yds with a harris bipod and rear bag 1.125" and 1.128" And I shot my #12 f-class 6.5*284 6shots @ 300 yds @ .970" with 142 SMKs.
Wayne.

Sleepy: That's what I was looking for. I'm 1/2-3/4 moa at 100 & 200 yards. I've only shot steel targets out to 500 yards, and nail every one, including clay birds. So, I guess the gun is doing what can be expected.

I USED to have one with the 8 twist. I only shot it at 100 yards. It starting shooting a little better after the first 200-300 rounds. It was a .3-.4 gun for me. I lost interest because of the trigger.

I have a LRPV with the 12 twist. I've only shot 3 shot groups with it so far. Most of my shooting is at 100 meters, but I did shoot 300 meters during load development, and managed a couple of 0.7" groups with Berger 68 and Bart's Ultra 68. That is kind of cherry picking though. Here is one of my better sets of 3 consecutive, three shot groups at 100 meters. I switched loads and I recall the next group was similar, but the one after that had a flyer. I seem to get one flyer in about 10-15 shots. Have not figured that one out yet, as to where to point the finger.

Dang Ron that's some fine shooting, is that savage all stock?
Wayne.

The factory HS Precision stock is pretty solid with an aluminum bedding block, but I did skim bed it. Those were the first three groups out of the gun after bedding. However, it was shooting very well before bedding too. The trigger was a bit of an issue initially but I took it apart, cleaned it, lubed it with spray on graphite, and cut part of a turn off the AccuBlade spring. I don't think in the end that was the issue with the trigger. I think the safety just was not moving to and staying in the full fire position. I now have the trigger set at 7 oz., and have shot close to 200 consecutive rounds out of it without a trigger hitch. I've gone 180 degrees from not too happy with the trigger, to fully pleased. I use a home made mirage shield on the barrel. Other than that, out of the box stock gun. Now I just have to solve the 1 in 10 flyer issue.

I bought a 12F in 6BR this past Nov. I have shot it at 100,300,and 600 yards. It shoots very good for a factory rifle. The gun has managed several .750" and 1.00" 5 shot groups at 300 yds. I have found that 107 smk jumped .020" shoot the best. Im using 30.2 Varget, Lapua brass, CCI 450 priners. The 107smk is the only bullet I've tested.

I just got back from the range an hour or so ago. I had some 80g Bergers I loaded up and got a .59in, 7 shot group at 200yds. Shooting to the west with a 10kt WNW wind.

The 80 grain Berger has shot very well for me in six 6BR and 6mm Remington rifles, twists from 8" to 12". It is the closest to a universal 6mm bullet that I know.
