Savage 6BR UBR

Thinking of shooting UBR factory class some next year, thinking of the 12 Benchrest Savage in 6BR with a 12 twist barrel, would have to have it cut and recrowned as 13.5 lbs is the max limit with scope. Any other factory rifles that you can think of that would shoot with this combo? I know most if not all the UBR factory class are running this rig.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Ruger 22PPC & 6 PPC. , Sako 6ppc. If you really want to go "factory" class. Also isn't the 40x considered factory in UBR?? JME. WD

Edit: Another consideration would be to go to the Modified class route and skip the factory stuff.

What does the rig weigh now all up? 13.5 is max? Consider doing the "Octagon" treatment on the barrel. Lost 15 oz. from the "transition" on a 26" straight pipe and gained the Cool Factor. Be the only one like it on the line. ;)

We can "recrown" the barrel so thought I could take of 4-5 inches
Factory Savage with the "optimal barrel length for the 6BR" and you want to shorten it ?? (recrown) I would think hard on that. That's why I suggested lightening the barrel by fluting (Octagon) rather than cutting a chunk off.

That model only comes from Savage with an 8 twist 29" barrel ?

I understand, but optimal for what distance? We shoot 100 yards to 300 meters and a 24" barrel "should" preform very well. I've about talked myself out of getting it and concentrating on what I have!!

Have you weighted your rig? I don't remember the model # of my rifle but is no longer made and it's a 1 in 12 twist 26" full heavy barrel (1") diameter at the muzzle, large shank right bolt left port target action and It came from Savage with an HS Precision stock. With a 36X Leupold, it weighs slightly under 13 1/2 pounds.
I figured it would be over weight but that's not what the scales say.

Don't do it, is DEFINATELY the best decision.

Getting a "factory" rifle to shoot consistently decent can be a VERY expensive, frustrating, and time consuming endeavor. JME.WD

They are almost 13 pounds from the factory! 12.75 I think, last year a friend was shooting one at the Nationals and everyone (except unlimited) had to weigh, his weighted over 14 pounds with a NF 12-42 on it and was DQ'ed.

Yes but you can get a factory barrel in 12 twist.
I didn't know you could get a 12 twist factory barrel - good to know. But what about this portion of the Factory class rules?

"......Barrels cannot be removed or replaced even by a barrel of the same manufacture. Any evidence of changes other than those listed will place your gun in the Modified Class."

All you have to do is request it from Savage and it will come as a 12 twist, it is available, not sure there is an additional charge or not. I've pretty much decided to stay with custom and unlimited. Purchased a modified 40X for modified class but really just don't have the interest I though I would.

It passed the weight check at the first match I entered plus weighed the same again on a certified scale at a local meat cutter, when I was considering a scope change. Had I went with a 45X Leupold with a 30mm tube, I was going to have to loose several ounces.
