savage 6br help

Hi Everyone!
I am in need of some help can not get this gun to shoot the way I think it should. It is a Savage action with a Pac-nor barrel 1-8 twist. Have worked up loads using Varget,Wolf small mag primers, and Hornady 105 A-max bullets. Started out with 29grs and went up in .5 gr increments to 31grs. Bullets set into lands @ 10 thousands. Shot those at 200 yards and the 31 grs shot the best about a 1 inch group for 5 shots. So tried to adjust seating depth in 20 thousands increments and didn't see much change. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD TRY NEXT????

THANK FOR ALL THE HELP!!!!!

Probably missed the sweet spot by going to far to quick..
Try tweaking it .005 at a time, that will allow you a better test..
Is the rifle bedded ?

How many .020' thou. increments did you go???//// I have found the best is aprox. .040'-.060' out, away from the lands) from 'touching'...I usually advocate in aprox .010 -.020 or bak out .040' ...they either all need to touch hard or jump enuff that they dont stop when they engage the rifeling..enuff inertia to avoid the hic-up!!...Roger

I just got back in from shooting. Tried something differant after looking threw targets from when I got my 22-250. Tried varget in it no good results so tried imr 4064 now shoots great. So I tried it in the 6br with berger 105 vld. Ended up with 30 grains and bullet jammed into lands. At 100 yds 5 shot group I got @ .369 center to center. Should I try differant seating depth or should I deal with this group.

Considering your shooting at only 200 yds, you might try a lighter bullet, like the 80G Berger FB over 30.5g of Varget for about 3022fps, this load shoots vary well in my Savage/Pac-Nor 1/8' 3 grove 26' heavy contour, when jammed at -.010 into the lands. Its OK to have both a short and a long range load.
About the 105s, I dont shoot them, as our range is limited to 200 for paper, and out to 450 for steel.
But the last two post make a good point, dont make such large changes at one time, its easy to miss the sweet spot.

The .369 is getting there, and 4064 is OK, its the next powder down on Hodgens burn rate chart, but dont sell your Varget just yet. Most guys will recomend only making one change at a time, did you jamb the bullet and switch to 4064 in one fell swoop? if so you dont know if it was the jamb or the powder, my guess is it was the jamb that made it shoot tighter. You should try a jamb using Varget, I dont care for 4064 as its hard to run through my powder measure. And I trickle all loads.
