Savage 6.5 Grendel

Hi, I need some input here.

I already have an Alexander Arms 6.5 Grendel and want to get a barrel in this caliber for my Savage 10FCP.,.308). I have found a barrel but want to know about bolt and magazine.

If I get a PPC bolt from SSS, will it extract this Grendel? Also...do you think it will feed properly from the existing .308 magazine. I do not want a single shot rifle!

I have found the Grendel an accurate cartridge and since I already reload for it I think it will work nicely for a longer range varmint caliber instead of my .308. The reduced recoil will also be a plus.

I have a 6.8 SPC Savage. I had to cut/shave/trim a C Products 6.8 AR magazine follower so it would fit the Savage 223 mag box. I used the AR follower spring cut to suit. It feeds just fine but only holds 3 rounds. Also the first round starts out on the left side of the mag which feels a bit weird as you are loading the mag. You could try a 6.5 follower suitable modified or maybe a cut down 6.5 magazine attached to the Savage mag box OR maybe a conversion to allow use of AR mags ???

The SSS bolt head should work fine. Ejection may be problematical. Just have to try it and see. A controlled round feed Savage bolt head might have a better chance of ejecting [ or maybe not ] but I don't know about attaching an ejector to your receiver.

You may be able to shoot hotter loads in your Savage. Mine will digest loads that if shot in my AR will have the primers falling out.
