Savage 25 in 17 Hornet

Curious about others experience with this rifle. I'm looking at the laminated heavy barrel in 17 Hornet, and like the three lug bolt. It's not the prettiest rifle in the world, but usually Savage's shoot good.

Ruger 77 is more than I want to spend, and I'm not that crazy about the CZ527 (I've had one and just don't care for it all that much).

What is your experience with the model 25?

I had one of the early ones. Nothing but trouble. Traded it on a .22 Hornet in the same model; another dud. Got dealer to take it back and bought a CZ (.22H).
If I want a smaller Hornet, I'll have it converted to a .19 Calhoon.

My experiences with early Savage releases has also been very bad. I had both an early bmag and also early A17, and both sucked. Had to relearn the lesson to not be an early adopter. My last CZ527 in 223 did not feed from the magazine very smooth, especially with the first one or two rounds. Two different factory mags acted the same. Also, the set trigger is not ideal for bench p-dog shooting since you can't get the main stage set low enough, and I became sick of always clicking it forward for the low setting. Just picky I guess.

I have a 17HH model 25 just the synthetic model and it shoots .5 moa out to 300 pretty easy. I bought mine used and I'm very happy with it.

I have a model 25 in 22 hornet that will shoot hand-loads .7 consistently at 100 yards. It was a challenge to find the load
it liked but I'm happy with what I'm getting with this as the 22 Hornet is basically about a 200 yard rifle. I've made some
longer shots but I like it as a walk around rat killer...just a lot of fun as I like to get away from the bench rifles now and then.
I know it's not a 17 Hornet but thought you might get something from this being a model 25. :)

I've owned 2 savage 25, one in 223 and one in 204 ruger. Both shot very well with handloads. I still have the 204 ruger. Have a Boyd s thump hole stock for a 25 if you decide to go that way, would make someone a good deal.

Thanks Bill

Not a 25, but a 40 in 22 Hornet. The 40 had a lot of bad press and issues. I guess I am lucky as mine has shot fine and I am happy with it.
My 17hornet is a CZ 527. I found there to be a learning curve. I have not shot it near as much as I would like too. It has not disappointed me yet.
