Savage 220

Anyone here own one of these ? Recently got one and accuracy with Remington Premier Accutips is really good . Problem is bolt cycling , extraction is sticky , sometimes real sticky and bolt hangs in the middle of cycle also . Thought perhaps it might be from bolt sliding over plastic cartridge in magazine .
Anyone else experience this ?
Makes it tough if you were to need a quick follow up shot .

Yes, mine is unbelievably accurate with 3" accu-tips. Bolt cycling is generally poor as you describe. I had a lot of trouble finding a scope mount that left enough room for the emptys to clear without hitting the windage turret. Ejection was my biggest problem. Once I found a mount, it seems the only way to consistently cycle is to be very aggressive on the bolt handle, meaning pull and push hard and fast. I am living with that because nothing else will get even close to the accuracy of these 220s.

With the accutips they are simply amazing for a slug gun . They kill very well too . Thank you for the reply , thought maybe it would be a suck it up situation with the bolt .

I have both Savage slug guns, a 220 (20 ga.) and a 212 (12 ga.) and the accuracy is amazing for a shotgun.
Mine both prefer Hornady SST slugs for accuracy/precision but cycling can be problematic unless they are cycled vigorously.
The ejector is a fixed blade and you have to pull the bolt back with sufficient force to get the empty to eject.

FWIW a friend has a Mossberg pump and uses the Hornady SST. EVERY cartridge extracted without firing has a torn up rim. Other types do not. Might not even matter, but thought I would mention it

Thank you for all the replies . Tried several different slugs recently , can't remember if I tried the SST . Will have a look at what I got .

Kenneth,

I have three savage 220s (one for myself and one for each of my 2 sons). I think they're the best thing going for areas that require slugs (which is unfortunately where we hunt). IMO, they're not really shotguns anymore, rather rifles chambered to shoot shotgun slugs.

We've been using the Accutips as well, although my sons use the 2 3/4 version as I would prefer they keep their shots short for now.

We've never had a problem with extraction, although all three rifles require enthusiastic working of the bolt to affect ejection.

ps - Were 20 ga Accutips hard to find for anybody else this past fall? I routinely looked at Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Scheels, local small places around Minneapolis all summer and found none. Glad that I bought a couple dozen boxes a couple of years ago. I'm wondering if Remington isn't making them anymore? Seems like that would be stupid, but...

nosuac , you are right , it would be stupid , "but" the gun industry has done some things just as dumb in the past , pretty sure that's where that was going .
But for what it's worth , Able supposedly has them in stock .
