Savage 12br in 6mm br norma

Hello. I just bought a savage 12br in 6mm br norma and am having problem when ejecting the cartridge. No tight bolt or any high pressure problems. The problem is after the cartridge leaves the chamber the ejector pin in the bolt pushs the cartridge against the side of the action and the neck is catching on something. It usually will nick my neck and sometimes actually pulls the cartrige off the bolt face and drop it right were it gets stuck. Anybody else have this problem? Should I send this back to savage or is this just an inherient problem with this action?

my 22-250 LRPV had the same eject ptoblems..called Savage & they sent me a new extractor spring, check ball and extractor..this fixed the problem. the problem was the extractor not holding the shell base so the ejector could do it's job. Savage customer service is tops.

Apprently pretty common with Savages and the 6mm BR. It has to do with the short stubby case. Read this for more info and fixes (one of which is what Savage provided, in the oust above):

Nhm16.... Thankyou for the links, I'll try the larger ball in the extractor detent ball and see what happens. I'd tried savage and the only thing I could get from them is to try a different brand of brass {I use lapua} or send them the whole gun. Not good!!

What I've done is remove the ejector entirely.
Drops the brass right on the follower. Easier retreival than picking up ejected brass.

Your gun is a single shot right?

Jo191145 ... yes my gun is a single shot dual port. After thinking it thru what I have tried is cutting the ejector spring shorter so it's not dragging the cartridge against the side of the action with as much force. I'll try this tomorrow. I like your idea though and if the shorter spring doesn't work I'll go that way. Thankyou for the reply and your idea!!

Oddly enough I had a similar problem as yours. 6BR shilen barrel. Always got these strange nicks on the mouth of the cases. Did'nt look anything like normal ejection marks. Actually looked impossible to be caused by ejection. Thought for the longest time I had burrs in the throat.
Never used the barrel much.

Removed the ejector on this action just last week. Nicks disappeared immediatly.

Shortening the ejector spring is one of the fixes. With short cases they overpower the extractor and cause trouble. I've redremeled the extractor detent hole on a couple heads to fix ejection problems. Thats another good fix.
Seeing as I use all my Savs as single shot paper killers only I now just remove the ejector entirely if theres a problem.
Its a very common problem on Savages. It can be fixed at home pretty easily if proper ejection is a nescessity. I prefer to just let em drop on the follower for my usage.

I hate the idea of shipping my rifles anywhere. Good thing about savages is theres nothing that can't be fixed at home with simple tools. Good Luck

I had the same problem with 12 f-class 6.5*284, removed ejector and problem went away.

Well shot my gun yesterday morning, got in two groups before the wind came up to about 30 mph!. The good news is shortening the ejector spring seems to help. No nicks on the necks of my brass and seemed to drop most cartridges where they were easy to pluk out of the action. I also just use this gun for punching holes, so don't want to chase cartridges all over the bench. Thanks again for the suggestions. I've never used a forum before but this sure has been a pleasant experience.
