I just purchased a savage 12 LFP 22-250,the cheapo). I got it because it had the fastest twist rate I could find under $800 and left handed. I am not overly impressed with the rifle yet since the ejector spring is so weak that it will often fail to kick the empty out of the chamber. This I can live with because I have read that this is common for varmint rifles so the empties doen't fly accross the bench. And I know that the fix is simply to put a ejector spring in it from a model 111 or something like that.
I have also had it fail to extract a case all the way back before the case slipped out of the extractor's grip causing a jam. It seems that there is more room than necessary around the case when I put a case in the bolt. My other rifles have hugged the base of the cartidge much more closely than this one does.
Any thoughts?
I bought a Savage because they are supposed to be easy to work on and change barrels--- I just didn't realize I'd have to work on it so much!!!
