Savage 12 LPV 1:7 twist 223

I have a friend looking for one of these in single shot. He is a good guy looking to get into longer range shooting.

Anyone?

The VLP is the only one currently that is offered in a 1:7 twist in 223. It is not a single shot, does not have the target trigger, and is a wood stock.

I bought one for my wife and she loves it. It shoots under .2" if you do your job right. Hers is before they added the detachable magazine.

I have one if you are interested. LRPV with laminate OR HS stock. Right bolt, left port, 1:7 twist barrel and all stainless.

I have a 1:9 twist left port LRPV model. It shoots very well. Well as far as I've shot it, it does well. So far I haven't gotten past 100 yards. I hope to get out to the 400 yard range soon. At 100 yards I had no trouble hitting objects about an inch in size. It was raining hard and I was under the shelter at the gun range so I didn't want to set up a target but I was shooting sticks that were about an inch thick with no problem at all. I also shot pieces of clay targets left behind by other shooters. It shoots very accurate IMO. It's a heavy thing though. I wouldn't want to shoot it standing up too often. My back hurts just thinking about it.

If I could have found the 1:7 twist barrel on this gun I probably would have went with it because of the ability to shoot heavier bullets but in my area guns like this aren't exactly common. I could have ordered one but I prefer buying from a local dealer who will be there to help me if need be. I got an ok deal but it was the same dealer who gave me an incredible deal on a rifle last year so I didn't complain. I paid $850 for a used model but it hadn't been shot more than a few times.

He bought one off Guns America - a single shot with a 1:7 twist barrel for $599.

The 12 is a short action and the LPV is for Low Profile Varmint. It WAS made as a single shot and was made in 1:9 and 1:7 twist barrels.

There was no typo. I have a 12 LRPV in a 1:7 twist and it indeed has a HS Precison stock. I have worked on mine a bit and it shoots well out to 1000 yards with the Berger 75 gr VLD bullets.

Thanks for the replys.

gunamonth, sorry about that.

When I looked on Savage's website I didn't look at the left port model. I do think that it is odd that only the left port lists a 7 twist, the dual port and DBM do not show it as an option. Personally, I am a fan of the 7 twist.

You're right Travelor. I had forgotten about the Low Profile Varmimt model. I guess I was just not used to seeing it listed as a LPV.
