Savage 12 FV a Cabelas exclusive?

I just got a Cabelas sale paper today showing the 12 FV on sale for $50 off with a $100 mail in rebate bringing the price to $269 plus tax.

I might have to pick up another since I paid $419 for one chambered in .223 last summer.

Mine has now had the 1:9 .223 Remington barrel reamed out to .22-243 ai and dropped into a B&C Medalist stock. I’m still not exactly pleased with the accu-trigger but it’s shoot8ng good and has been a fun low budget project.

so the 12fv uses an action that is the same basic acrion as a PTA and uses large shank barrels? the differences being it isnt stainless, has a mag hole and a bigger loading port? also different accutrigger? sure is a big price difference between a 12fv on sale and an LRPV. Thanks
No.......... it's a long way from the Savage Target action. They're similar of course, since they're both Savage model 12 type actions, but they aren't the same. As you point out it isn't stainless, it has a mag hole, it uses two action screws, it has a much larger loading port, it takes a small shank barrel, and although it has an Accutrigger, it's the hunting version, not the red blade target trigger.

I would gladly trade my 12FV action for a Target action, but for where I am on the food chain of F-Class shooting the inexpensive 12FV action is just fine even though I acknowledge that it isn't the best. And although I have a couple of Savage Target actions and I like them, I'm not sure they really offer me a measurable improvement down at the target. I'm a better-than -1/2-MOA-shooter, but I'm not a better-than-1/4- MOA shooter. If I were, I'd be buying actions that cost more than the last car I purchased.

Remember, the goal for me was to assemble an inexpensive 6.5 Creedmoor which would be good enough so that an old fart like me could piss off the young guys 1/3 my age using equipment that is worth three times what mine is by out-shooting them and their equipment.

That is exactly what I did when I built my 6mm BR Norma using the same methodology. It worked well enough so that one guy I outscored got his panties in such a tight wad that he made a fool of himself by falsely claiming I was cheating. He was proven to be wrong and humiliated himself in front of his fellow club members. I smiled. ;)

I will probably get the Creedmoor version too but mainly to sell the barrel. Its getting a 6.5x47 barrel right away. The CM just does not agg as well. Just got to get the wife on board now.

OK. That answers my questions on the 12fv action. Good job on the 3 x 1/3 -- i like that-- Thanks Much

The sale paper I received is showing 219.00 the final price, Friday only.
You were right slobhunter2, that was the price this morning. It surprises me that Savage can even build them that cheap. It cost me 1150$ to get a Defiance rebel action sent to a Smith. Glad there all these options out there.

I just ordered one on line and my price is $319 then $100 mail-in rebate which is $219 then tax and background check . That's a great deal ...

Guy at my range had one in 22-250 that shot a 5-shot, 5/8 of an inch group w/o load development @ 200 yards. He did use his reloads tho. I spotted for him. Unreal.

Well, I couldn't resist. I ordered one, (6.5 Creed) last night for $336 including tax. Yet to include the $100 rebate, $56 in points and I'll see if they give me the veteran's discount also.

I can't figure out how to attach a pic, but the new 6.5 creedmore just shot a 5 shot group under .5moa during a seating test. Using varget and a middle of the range load. Another 12fv shooter...

There is a rebate on the fv. Go to Cabela's website. Look up the 12 FV. The rebate banner is there. Many of is have all ready received our rebates

Rebate still out but sale is over. 419.00 with 100.00 rebate. 319.00 final cost today. Christmas is coming. Another sale may occur but most likely the rebate will end by then.

its all good now.... I ordered one each for my buddy and I in 6.5 creedmoor... got to pick them up this week... like I need another rifle...LOL.

Still waiting on mine to come in as I called and checked my orders status and still shows back ordered.....The rebate is good till Dec 30th I think.
