savage 12 f/tr 223 with 1x7 twist.

Debating between this gun in either 223 or 308 or the bvss in 223 with 1x9 twist. Anyone have these guns. Specificly the 12 f/tr in 1x7 twist. Target shooting mostly 100-300 further if I shoot well enough

Bowtie,
I have the .223 in a varmint setup (right bolt/left port) 1-7 twist. I shot it F/TR @ 300 yards this year in my first match.

Give me a shout if you want to know more.

im just very indecisive. Im torn between having my remington 700 sps tact rebarreled in the 1x7 twist and action work done by rwhart which is located within driving distance from me. Or get the 12 ftr. I read only good things about the ftr in 308 but cant find much on the 1x7 223. I know the ftr is designed for well beyond 300 but thats what im limited to locally. Either way ill probably be having a mcmillan a5 or 3 bedded to it. Im curious where my money is better spent on the sps or the ftr. how does yours shoot and what load does it like. Im mainly choosing the 223 because it cheaper to handload. Thanks for any input.

GO for the f/tr in 223 1x7 twist buddy has one and i have an lrpv in 223 1x7 we worked up loads and shoot 90gr vld 25gr of reloader15 and use magnum primers they run about 2850 with no pressure problems he shoots 1k he shot 560 and574 out of 600 this year out of a barrel that has 2000 rounds in it and over .100 throat erosion he is looking to rebarrel this yyear and the old barrel is going to be a 220swift akleyd cant wait to see how 90 shoot in it well good luck deciding

thanks. Bit of a jump but i noticed that the 6mmbr isn't a whole lot more expensive to reload aside from the brass and the barrel lasts a whole lot longer then i thought also. Savage model 12 in the 6mmbr is probably on a whole nother level huh? Cant seem to find much of a negative on the 6mmbr aside from if you have a magazine fed gun.

You don't have to spend the money on a A5 or 3 mcmilan that savage stock is a good one just bed it it isnt going to shoot any better in a Mcmillan unless your just going for apperence.

I just liked the grip and feel of the mcmillan. Went a totally dif route in the end. Found out about clarence hammonds who is about 2 hrs from me and bought one of his 6ppc rifles bedded in a bench rest stock. I have an eliseo rts on order for shooting prone with it and my 308. Though its really gratifying shooting a gun that hits exactly where you point it time after time.
