savage 12 btcss 22-250

Purchased about 4 months ago and have been trying to find a load that would better .8 at 100 yards with 3 rounds. It is a savage 12 btcss 22-250 with a viper 6.5-20 using warne tact 1pc and warne 30mm rings. Have been loading lapua brass with cci 250 primers. Using nosler 40 grain BT. Have used h-414,h-4895'h-380.and 8208 ,all within 3 grain +/- of all loads I could find using .2 as I went seating from on lands to .02 of the lands.I tried to follow the break in with 20 rounds cleaning after each shot. Have just ordered 50 grain nosler BT. I have no idea what to do . Does anyone have suggestions.

Thank You

W.

I have had a few 22-250's with various twists work well for me.
what is the twist rate? 8 or 9 twist might not shoot the 40's well.
Does it shoot any factory ammo well? If so what weights?

Try any 52 grain match bullet, XBR 8208, CCI 200 or BR Lapua Brass. Stay away from the old ball powders.

Using the Optimum Charge weight (Dan's) find a load and then try the smaller weight bullets.

Assuming a factory barrel, it should be a 12 twist. Before I shot out the barrel, mine liked the 55 VMax and the 55 Nosler BT equally as well.

I have a savage BTCSS that my father left me. it shoots extremely well but I found that it shoots lights out with 39grains of cfe 223 and a 53 gr. vmax

Thank you for the information I have not bought any ammo of the shelf in at least 25 years looks like it may be time to, then I would have some kind of base line to go by. I have some old 55 sierras I could try, but they are all over the place when I checked the ojive. When I say old I mean around 1960-63.

Thank You Again

W.
