Savage 116 Magazine

I was doing some load work last winter on a friends stainless 116. Fairly nice gun..fluted semi heavy bbl, 7mm RM (24" tube ) Long story short....the stock was JUNK!!!!
Had my smith replace it with a BOYD Varment stock and he said that I will need to get different box mag and spring. Now, the gun was a hinged forplate box mag. It will now be a hidden box top load mag, as there is no cutout for the bottom metal. I am not sure which magazine I need to get. Someone told me that they are different and if the gun origanaly had a bottom load box that the top load box will not work.

How about the spring?

Anyone out there able to dumb thenselves down enough to follow my train of thought and ramblings and lead me to the right parts??? I have the BIG Brownells catalog sittin here in front of me...just not sure.

All you need is the magazine clip that holds it into the stock,which you can get from savage through their savage parts finder at their web site.You need the serial number of a rifle that was one or maybe yours will show both mags and necessary parts. The next thing you do is remove the plastic floorplate off you detachable mag and there you have it,the correct blind mag instanly.No alterations other than taking it off.
