Awhile back I asked about getting the 6BR to cycle cartridges properly from a Rem 700 BDL style magazine. I was referred to this article: http://www.6mmbr.com/Rem700magfix.html I removed the box "back stop" from a .223 mag box and installed It into the .308 mag box. Quick, easy, and looks professional. Next I shortened a .308 follower per the article. Appears to have turned out correct per the picture in the article. I installed a .223 spring onto the hinged BDL style floor plate and installed the shortened follower onto the other end of the spring. Next I closed the floor plate and loaded 3 rounds into the mag box. The back end of the .223 spring slid forward as far as it could and when trying to move the first round into the chamber, the bolt just slid up over the top of the cartridge. OK, I'll fix that, or so I thought, and I proceeded to JB Weld a spring stop in. After allowing the JB to fully cure, I once again load 3 rounds into the mag box. This time the bolt picks up the cartridge - as it should. Lo and behold as the front of the bullet begins to ramp up, it forces the rear of the follower downward and the bolt once again climbs up over the cartridge. OK, so now I'm thinking dremmel the JB out of the bottom (floor plate) and move that portion of the spring rearward and JB it in that position. Before I try that, is there someone amongst us that has actually successfully made this modification work? Hopefully there is, and your wisdom will save me hours of moving things back and forth. I am somewhat suspicious that the .223 spring may be weaker than it should be. I was going to shorten the .308 spring to match the shortened follower until I discovered that the point where the spring bends back the opposite direction would be shoving into the front of the mag box. One more question, is there a company that makes a bottom metal and detachable mag that will work with the 6BR?
