Savage 111 Longrange Hunter 338LM

I am very close to "pulling the trigger on one of these Savage 111 long range hunter rifles in 338 Lapua mag. I would like some feedback from anyone who has one or knows of a friend that shoots one.

How is their accuracy comming along?(I know it depends on alot of things )

are they pleased overall with the build of the rifle

what does Savage use as a rifiling method on this barrel?

any issues with the magazine or cheekpiece being "cheap"

Thanks in advance.

A friend of my has one. I was absolutely amazed how accurate the rifle shot, groups were averaging around 1/2 moa at 100 yards with reloads. I didn't shoot it but he claimed the recoil was very managerable. I did test the gun for fit and I liked the way my finger was postioned on the trigger. Trigger was very good, crips, no creep and about 3 lbs pull.

I personally didn't see an application for this monster. It's far to heavy to take into the field in my opinon and horribly expensive to shoot. But if you want a cannon, it seemed like a well built rifle, very accurate and shoots great off the bench with a bipod.

Two friends at our range recently bought one each. From watching them shoot them in and doing some load development, I would say they shoot very well. Like a previous poster said, one shot about 1/2 inch at 100 and the other was shooting about 1 1/2 inch at 300 when working up loads.
