Savage 110 short action

Does anyone out there know of any source where I can find a complete bolt for a savage model 110 short action? I came across a rifle minus bolt in my Grandmothers attic. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

PTG has most of the parts, and you could buy anything else direct from Savage.

Midway sells the complete bolt assemblies. If it's a 110 you should need a long action bolt. If it's a model 10 it's a short action.

The action is the 1st generation short with a screw spacing of 4.552, chambered in 22-250. Thanks again for the input.

Just completed a Customization of a Model 110 that now is a .224 Weatherby Magnum. It started out as a .223 Remington. I replaced the factory bolt body (.701 fluted PT&G bolt body), bolt head (PT&G bolt head made for .224 Weatherby) , firing pin (new small Savage OEM), bolt head retaining pin (new Savage OEM), magazine box (Savage 308 mag box), magazine follower (Savage SA follower and spring. It is now wearing a new (no barrel nut) Mullerworks 26" #4 Sporter, .224, 1:8, 4groove barrel and a beautiful curly walnut stock.

The bolt bodies on the older models had a dimple that aligned the bolt heads. The bolt heads had a corresponding machined cut out. The new bolts don't have this configuration. I recommend replacing the old bolt heads when replacing the bolt bodies.

The bolt head on mine is totally different from the modern style, as the the rear of the barrel shrouds the bolt head giving it that "third ring of steel", my friend has the old long action with the same style of bolt head, just a long action, not short. Hopefully some one out there has the old style.

I may be way off base here but it sounds to me like you are looking for an early "J" series Savage. I think (because I have never done it before) I attached a picture of the type of bolt you are looking for. I don't know where you would find one but perhaps knowing exactly what you are after will help in the search.

That is exactly what it should look like, as it is identical to the one my friend has in his rifle, only mine is shorter in length.

Scooter,
That bolt is a combination of the rarest kind of Savage bolts. The first generation short action (4.5" action screw spacing), has a shorter bolt body and firing pin, spring, etc., and the earliest version with the "three rings of protection" using the deep face bolt head you show.

You'll have more luck trying to buy a whole gun that matches that configuration, then you'll have a spare parts gun. Or if you replace the barrel with one of the more modern Savage "pre-fits" you could use a more modern bolt head too.

...but the shorter bolt body? I've been searching for three years for parts, they're not out there. I ended up buying another 1st generation gun, and switch one bolt between two different calibered rifles. I be interested in your rig if you decide to part with it.
