Savage 110 Hunter Opinions?

I am looking at a new savage 110 hunter. I have had great success with older savage rifles. But no experience with their new gun. Wondering what people think of their newer guns.

I have a bottom bolt release in .223 that is bone stock from the factory that just continues to amaze me with its accuracy. Consistently shoots 5 shot groups under an inch with handloads.

About 4 years ago I bought a 110 Storm in .223. VERY accurate rifle. Action is very smooth, surprisingly close to that of my 6.5 CM Tikka Super Varmint. Hunting opportunities didn’t really pan out, so pulled the action, dropped it into an MDT stock, added a Shilen barrel, and made it into a range rifle. Flawless through 400+ rounds.

As mentioned above, not sure what you call new.....

I bought a Savage model 10 in 7mm-08 about 4 years ago. Shoots 1" to 1 1/4" @ 100 with the first handload I tried, so I quit testing.
Plenty good enough for deer out to 300 yards, and that's what I bought it for.

I shoot a Savage 110 PCS. Working the action when new, it was very gritty. Cleaning up the bolt and action, all the grittyness is gone. Very smooth, very accurate.

I have a pair of Savage 12 rifles ... one F-Class in 6.5/284 and one Varmint Low Profile in 300WSM. Love em!
The F-Class (~2013 vintage) has the full-blown red "target" Accu-trigger which is set really light.
The VLP has their "varmint" Accutrigger, which is about halfway between the "target" and "regular" Accutrigger.
One of the things I like best about the Savages is that you can rebarrel them yourself.
My first gun as a kid in the '70s was a Savage 311 double-barrel. Happy to return to my roots with these rifles.

We had a Savage 110 with a cheap hardwood stock years ago. It was a good rifle. Then in the 80s silhouette was big and Savage wanted to make a centerfire silhouette rifle and came up with the 110S in 308 and 7mm-08. I shot one a friend had and I was sold on it but by that time silhouette was going away and Savage dropped the rifle. Then about 3 years ago I seen one for sale and bought it. The wood, the bluing, and smoothness remind you how good they did things when they wanted to.

I bought a 110 short action, action only from Northland a couple of years ago. Changed trigger, put on a 26” Criterion and dropped it on a Boyd’s pro Varmint stock. Like most, it’s a little clunky but shoots really well. I also have an older short action with a take off barrel from a newer 12FV. Shoots really tight groups, despite how ugly the inside of the barrel looks.

BIG mistake to stick a bore scope into a Savage factory barrel. Just shoot the thing.

I’ve had nice results with all the Savages I’ve bought in the last 10 years. All easily shoot under 1 moa with consistency. The 110 high country in 6.5 prc gave me fits at first, but a little work got it to a nice place with 140’s.

Yep.

I have a .223 barrel that looks like it is copper lined after a day at the range. But, almost all those bullets went into less than 1/2" groups. Hot or cold it was good.

OTHO, I have a .308 barrel that is very picky about temp, bullet, and powder. With the right combo it was also a 1/2MOA shooter. If not the right combo, or if it got too warm, it was bad.

Savage (probably like other mass mfg's) has a guy who straightens barrels. I suspect that .223 of mine didn't need to be straightened and the .308 barrel required quite a 'tweak'.

I've got a buddy who recently purchased an Axis Pro 2 in 270, and to my amazement it had a very nicely done bore. Looks a lot better than my Remington and Howa factory barrels for sure.

The new version of their stocks are quite nice, vertical grip, camo, pretty rigid. And it had a Cerakote action and barrel, threaded muzzle, came with picatinny scope rail.

It shoots factory Norma 130 grain hunting load at 1" groups at 100 yards. I developed a load, using his Norma brass, Rem 9 1/2 primers, H4350 and 130 grain Berger classic hunter bullets, and it shoots .5" groups consistently. I'm pretty darn impressed, bone stock rifle with mid-level Vortex 4-16 hunting scope.
