Savage 110 ELITE PRECISION

Anyone know much about this line of Precision rifles?
Thinking about 223 or 6mm.
Currently shoot Rem 40x with 6mmBR, super accurate at 300M.

Not sure how accurate this rifle would be out of the box.

Is there a better precision rifle, Ruger or Sig?

Thanks!

What will you be using the rifle for?

My strong advice would be to buy a used rifle of better quality rather than paying for a new "precision" rifle. Much more rifle for your money. $2000 for a new Savage! Instead that money could buy a really nice used rifle here or other sites.

2 friends of mine have them, one in 223 and the other in 6CM...IMO it's the best bang for the buck to get into PRS style matches. To buy the ACC chassis alone from MDT is $1500 and you can find the rifle for under $1800 new. I got one of the 338 Lapua Mag versions, removed the barrel, sold it for $250 and had a 30" 300 Norma Mag barrel spun up for it and its a hammer out to 2200 so far

For the money, a guy really has to think the ACC chassis is a lot better product than the MPA BA chassis, because basically the same price buys a factory-custom Production Class MPA PMR with a Curtis action which accepts shouldered prefit barrels in an MPA chassis and a TriggerTech trigger with an MPA made, hand lapped pull-button rifled barrel OR buys a Savage action in an MDT chassis with a Savage trigger, Savage button rifled barrels… so does a guy think the ACC is THAT much more valuable than the BA chassis?

For what the rifles are built to do: there ARE MPA PMR’s which qualify for the PRS finale in Open class. There aren’t any savage actions - and there was only 1 Savage action I recall out of the Production Class squad of qualifiers.

That makes it pretty hard for me to jump on the Savage Elite Precision.

No offense, but that reason alone would stop me from buying it. The chassis is $1500 and you can find the rifle for $1800. So the action, barrel and trigger are worth a whopping $300? That doesn’t instill confidence in me.

To the OP you should check out, Mack bro’s evo action. Even a defiance classic, and a few others would allow you to use a barrel nut, just like the savage and you can screw a barrel on with no special tools.

Mack bro’s action: $775
Barre from NSS or urban rifleman: about $375
Trigger tech diamond (way better than factory savage) $300
KRG bravo, MDT oryx, and many others $3-500
Right around $2000 and have a custom rifle.

Or you could get a tikka CTR, and get a chassis for it, or use it as is, for about $1,000. They only have them in 6.5 and larger calls though.

I know you asked about a savage but, I think there are better options.

I know a guy shooting it in FTR with good results. I think I would go custom. I would build best rifle- best chassis, bestr trigger, best action- I could afford and the only thing I will be changing would be barrels.

A Tikka TAC A1 is a better bet - maybe a little more cash, but a whole lot of better rifle. If you can find a used one - great. It's a good platform for a rebarrel later too.

So you are assuming that Savage is paying full retail for the chassis?

I have 2 of these rifles chambered in 6.5CM and they both, out of the box, shoot sub MOA 10 shot groups at 500 yards using Norma Match 143GTX factory ammo.

My advice is to find a friend that owns one and try it out for yourself.

I’ve shot plenty of savages. At the end of the day...it’s a savage in a really nice chassis. Also, no I don’t think they are paying retail. I was merely making a comment off of the numbers given in a comment. Savage is a mass production action with sloppy tolerances.

I called NSS ready to buy a savage action for a budget build, and the owner steered me away from the very products he sells, for somthing he didn’t sell. Great guy.

I like mine. It's left handed and shows promise for accuracy with the factory barrel. When I got it, the price was very close to the cost of the chassis alone if purchased from the manufacturer.

Thats interesting. Care to share where he steered you?
Well, at the time he sold factory rem700 savage and zermitt actions. Im just not a fan of savage. I know 5 people that own or have owned savage, and all had extraction issues. My father has sent his into savage 2 times. They fixed his problems, no questions asked. So they do have gray customer service. Just not a fan.

I just built a 6.5 Creedmoor for less than the cost of a factory rifle - and I wasn't even planning another build. but...I came across an "original" Barnard action/trigger - one built by Peter himself, serial number 015. in great condition. I had Tru-flite make a 28 in heavy Palma barrel, and as my smith doesn't have a Creedmoor reamer (but had gauges), had them put a long chamber in. I found an unsold/bargain GRS laminated wood stock, originally made for a Sako magnum action, which was modified by my smith with walnut and a bedding block. He also fitted an 8mm bag rider to the fore end, and modified the bolt removal keyway, as per the later models. The main difference is the bolt diameter - 20mm on the older action, 22mm on the later. Result - an F-Open gun for under $2000 US. I'm still load testing, but results are encouraging, using H4350 and 6.5 Staball with 139 Lapuas. and 142 Sierras. Currently wears a Vortex Golden Eagle, which I'm not that happy with....considering it was almost double the rifle cost.6.5 Creedmoor.jpg

Ain't no way in hell I'd pay $2K for any Savage...

You can build a custom rifle for that and shoot circles around it anyday, and it definitely looks and feels better too haha.

Been around plenty and owned a couple Savages myself. They didn't ever stick around very long. Just not a fan of them at all. They're like the back yard bolt actions of ARs.
