Savage 110 .223

I took a sierra 69 hpbt bullet and checked to see what my c.o.a.l. is with this bullet.
It was 2.405
Anything to worry about?

Why is your COAL 2.405? Personal choice or ?

Don't know the year of your Savage but there were years when some Savage 223's had long throats. I had one in a BVSS. Was it less accurate than my other Savage 223's ? No.

Federal GMM 69SMK factory loads are 2.257" COAL and 1.861" BTO based on my measurements.

I believe 80VLD's will be around 2.412" COAL based on others data.

Only thing I would worry about with that setting, is that the bullet might fall out, when you unloaded it without firing it in the chamber. just a thought.

I’ve had a couple Savage’s with 223 barrels. They had long throats. Still shot really well even with factory loaded ammunition. With the 69gr bullets just load them with base at the neck/shoulder junction. If your barrel twist is 10 or faster and your barrel is any good you should be alright.

What twist is your 110 223rem ?

If it's a 9", than the freebore is a little long for 55-69 gr bullets.
But if you have a 7" twist,.. your freebore is great for the longer 75-90 grainers.

If you load the 69 smk 0.020" off the lands at 2.385", you still have right around 0.145" of bullet shank in the neck. Still good in my opinion.

That is the c.o.a.l of that bullet, not my personal load, using the rod method

I’m not trying to load them at that length,I was using the rod method for finding the c.o.a.l. For that bullet

2.405 bullet into lands, not a problem. I have a 112 LRV from early 90's, I shoot 53 gr vmax @ 2.380 coal. This length is not touching the lands and is very accurate with a mid range Benchmark load. This is a favorite pd load, barrel is slow to heat up and really pops pd inside 200 yards.

My wifes 110FP likes the 69gr TMK at 2.260".
Using Alliant PP2000, and LC brass with Fed match primers, nets 20 rounds under 1" at 100 yards with boring regularity.

I'm trying to talk her into shooting an F Class match.

I loaded a bullet to this 2.385 3/4 of the bullet is in the case neck,is this enough?
I read that .224 is the correct amount

1 caliber worth of bullet shank in the neck is not necessary for most applications. I'm happy with half to 3/4 down the neck.

If you were shooting a huge recoiling rifle with more cartridges in the magazine, you might want that caliber worth in the neck.
