SAVAGE 10 SBA versus 700 ADL, Tactical

Well, getting ready to purchase a new rifle, had my heart set on the 700 ADL, tactical, in 6.5 Creedmore. Got my money right, and have been reading alot about the newer Remmys, and have gotten heart sick about it. Now, I have green blood flowing through my veins. Hmmmm
So, in the same price point, actually, just a little bit higher, is a Savage 10, SBA, also in six five. Any body have any comforting thoughts, suggestions. I'm told the savages shoot, just have to get used to the accu trigger again.

Get the Savage. Better design, better QC, better customer service, better out of the box accuracy, and its easy to install your own barrels and change calibers without a gunsmith.

The Savage's can have tight throat leads and can take up to a few hundred rounds before they "loosen".

This is a problem because ammo can JAM in the throat giving pressure signs. Along with a rougher chamber can give primary extraction issues. But a chamber polishing job does the trick.

The Savage action on average is smoother than the Remington. I'm talking about the coated (black) bolts, and not the clean steel bolts.

Savage firing pin springs on some models are not as strong as Remington springs. This can lead to failures to fire on hard cup primers, very unlikely with factory ammo but more so with handloads and CCI primers... but on the other hand a lighter firing pin spring gives a lighter bolt lift. However, this is not an issue with the 10/110 Stealth BA models.

The buttstock on the Stealth is "good enough", but not great.

Savage customer service is better than Remington's. Any problem with Savage firearms will get looked at and fixed in a timely manner (as long as you live in the USA).

On average Savages shoot better than Remington's and getting a sub-moa right out of the box is just about guaranteed with a Savage.

Remington 700 action = 3 rings of steel. Safer.

When there is a gas release from a case head failure, the Savage extractor doesn't do well. At least from what i see on line.

My Savage Axis is working fine after 2200 rounds fired and very accurate for an entry level rifle. Early 8 lb trigger . Getting close to the end of the M16 ammo.

If you ever want a nice trigger get the Remington.

They are both mass produced rifles. You can get lucky or unlucky with either brand. Flip a coin.

I prefer Rem 700 so I would get the Rem...and put a good trigger in it.

Get the Savageits easy to install your own barrels and change calibers without a gunsmith.

You don't need a gunsmith to install barrels anymore on Remingtons either. Remage barrel makers are becoming very common.

The chances a stock Savage will outshoot a stroke Remington are slim. They both shoot about the same out of the box. The Remington is a much better platform for hot rodding. And I have both.

Well, I actually went and looked at both ladt nite. The savage 10SBA, is a package rifle, scope is a Chinese built banner, (Bushnell), and the remmy has a tan Tupperware stock, with black rubber in pistol grip, and forend. Bolt felt smooth, couldn't look up barrel, because of trigger lock. I know probably need to replace trigger, at least, maybe even stock also, on the remmy.
On the Savage, the stock was really wippy, wappy, in the forend area. Bolt seemed a little tougher then I would have expected.
The remmy is $449, the Savage, $599. Really torn! Thoughts?

Snowpro, I will keep that in mind. I heard that from the salesman as well, although, he wasn't sure as to expiration of that offer. Hmmmmm!

floating bolt head anyone? Savage can change from .223 to 308 or any other size bolt heads cheaply and easily in minutes, remington needs an entire bolt to do the same. Also the end user can change bolt handle to suit you cheaply and easily with one screw- no gunsmith needed there either, try that with remingtons "braised on" tiny stock bolt handle. Stock accutriggers are actually pretty good, dont even get me started on the Xmark trigger, not so good and well documented. If you want a rifle thats very accurate out of the box that is extremely diy friendly, go the savage. If you like truing bolt lugs and revievers, buying triggers and spending money at the gunsmith buy the Remington.

Back in september I bought a Remington 700, a couple days later I bought a Savage right after UPS picked it up to have the junk barrel replaced . Glad I anticipated,Remington replaced my barrel with another junker. They really suck at the whole phone etiquette thing also.

When you said Model 10 SBA I thought 10 Stealth BA.

But at $599 a package with a scope you're talking a different rifle.

For hunting only, I would still get the Savage as long as it DOESN'T have the Accustock.
The non-accustock models carry better for hunting and weight less.

If it's for hunting and range time fun. It's a tossup.

If you want aftermarket 2-stage trigger, the Rem is the only one that has them. I LOVE my Calvin Elite 2-stage on my Rem700. If I could get them for my Savages I would instantly.

if Savage were to produce lugs that un-true and it somehow made it out of the factory the floating bolt head would likely still compensate for the problem
