Sartorius GD503 scale problem

Hi. Has anyone purchased a Sartorius GD503 and received it in the "legal for trade" mode? I got a good deal on one from a Jewelry tool shop, but didn't know anything about this particular certification. Apparently, there's a switch under a tamper-sealed door that will allow it to be user calibrated, but this voids the certification. My problem is that it will only read in grams and carats, as those are the only units allowed under the certification. I've read the manual, found where I'd normally go to change it, but the options simply aren't available to select in the menu. I'm betting that flipping that switch will allow it, but I'd hate to void the certification, then be unable to return it. The worrisome part is that the Sartorius website states: "Can be toggled at the touch of a key between any 2 of 16 mass units, such as g and ozt or dwt and ct, etc. (legal-for-trade models may only be toggled between ct and g as required by legal metrology standards)" It says "models," not just units that are switched into that mode.

I'll call the place Monday to see what the deal is, but I was really stoked to receive it the same day I found out it shipped, and my other scale quit working, too. If anyone knows or has run into this before, I'd sure appreciate any light you can shed on it. Thanks!

EDIT: Flipping the switch was all that was needed. When I first opened the panel I didn't see the switch because it sits on top of a metal bar and just barely protrudes beyond it. I used the dull end of my knife to slide it over and then everything worked as the manual suggests.

I had the same problem but i called the phone number that comes with the scale. They will walk you through it........ jim

When I have a problem I call Sartorius Tech support they have help me a couple of times . One issue i had was switching from grams to grains . They walked me through over the phone.

You probably bought yours from the same place I did in Chicago, great prices but the manual they ship it with is not complete. You do need to toggle the switch. Here is the complete manual I used. Go to "Toggle between weight units". Also it says that "With this application program you can toggle the display of a weight value back and forth
between two weight units." I set BOTH to grains so that there was no chance it would get changed and I would be weighing in a different mode and not know about it.

Yep, SEP tools in Chicago. Thanks for the info, thought that switch would be the ticket, but wanted to be sure on the off chance this unit wasn't some special model. I had an Acculab before, too, and its menu and unit toggling was the same. I appreciate the help!
