thanks for the clarification. I did not go beyond the initial ad as it read.
One of the best reasons I don't/won't bother with transfers. For the $25 fee charged in this part of the country and the possible sales tax related hassles from the state, why bother? As mentioned a couple of times already, most states actively enforce their sales tax laws on anyone holding a resale or manufactures tax permit, and most are as complicated as federal tax law is.I had a local FFL try that on me for a $$ rifle. He didn't even get the transfer fee. He's also a VP at the gun club.
If Amazon charges state sales tax, they do it if they sold the product. If someone else sold it, and Amazon was only the fulfillment agent, they don't collect the tax.
ok ill have to pay closer attention when they charge me to see wats up thanksI had a local FFL try that on me for a $$ rifle. He didn't even get the transfer fee. He's also a VP at the gun club.

I should have stated that the rifle was coming from out of state to Florida. In this case, I would pay the use tax (6%) directly to the Florida Department of Revenue. Inasmuch as the local FFL didn't sell the rifle, he does not collect sales tax on it.One of the best reasons I don't/won't bother with transfers. Not trying to argumentative here but if my state of Idaho never had something they can't lose it. They may want something and not get it but they can't lose it if they didn't have it in the first place. If you file NYS income taxes there is a line for paying sales tax on out of state purchases. If you fail to and get caught, I guess, you would be guilty of tax evasion. Amazon and private sales cost the states millions in lost sales tax.

Because sales taxes are state mandated taxes. Every time you register it, you pay the taxes for that state.Let's hope we don't start getting double dipped on taxes.
If I paid sales taxes on my car in one state how can I be re-taxed by another for merely registering it.
And they wonder why we don't trust them.
So if I were to have you perform a service for me and I refuse to pay you, you'd be ok with that? Think about that for a while. We all have to pay.Not trying to argumentative here but if my state of Idaho never had something they can't lose it. I wouldn't put much faith into thinking you are getting off easy, not paying sales tax. You, all of us, are paying no matter what the terminology is. Everyone pays. What good reading.
Oregon is a nut House in Staroids .....
But still No Sales Tax !
I have no trouble ordering anything.
I do see many places with postings that state: We can't ship to CA. Chicago etc.
Thanks for the info.

When they start spending our money honestly I will gladly pay...Because sales taxes are state mandated taxes. Every time you register it, you pay the taxes for that state.
Most consumers don't realize that they owe taxes on anything they purchase if their state has such a tax. Just because you buy online, you don't get a pass on the taxes. Also just because your state does not actively collect these taxes, you are still obligated to pay them. It's a catch 22 situation that can get very expensive to get out of if you get caught.
In my state, Ohio, you have to have a vendors license to do business. All that is, is your permit to collect sales tax and forward it to the state. I don't deal with consumers as my customers are tax exempt, therefore I don't collect. If I were to do business with a consumer, I would then be obligated to collect the taxes.
