Sako/tikka actions

Im seeing gunsmiths out there advertising custom rifles built on any action of your choice,for example Sako and tikka.Where are these guys getting these actions.Are they buying the complete rifle and then just using the action for the project or can you buy these actions on there own.

A couple years back Brownells had some bare SAKO actions for sale. They sold out quickly and I've not seen any more. Mac Tilton at MTGuns.com and others that build customs on SAKO and Tikka actions typically purchase slightly used complete rifles and strip them down to the receivers.

The 595 Tikka is a nice action for a build, but the original rifles are getting harder to find. The stainless 595 is an extremely rare beast.

The SAKO 995,TRG-S) is a good choice if you want a super-magnum such as the .338 Lapua. This action is similar to the one used for the TRG42 sniper rifle.

With one of these actions,with the correct bolt) you'll could build up a .338 or .30-338 for a fraction of the cost of a TRG-42.
