Sako Extractor Removal

How does one dissassemble a Sako Extractor on a Rem 700 bolt? I want to do a thorough cleaning and would like to dissassemble the entire bolt.

They can be a little bit of a pain to get out. I have not taken one out recently but if I remember correctly you need to push back and up at the same time to release the hook from the extractor cut in the bolt. Back in is simple, push down and back. It will pop right in. Edit to say I wouldn't bother taking the thing out unless there was brass shavings accumulated under it. Simply spray it out with brake cleaner. Done.

There should be a small groove at the back of the extractor, you use a very small screwdriver to compress the spring plunger, then you can lift the extractor out of the bolt. If the plunger/screwdriver slips when the extractor is removed parts will fly. You will be hunting for the plunger and the spring. Good luck

Or do the operation in a transparent plastic bag...

Plus one for doing it in a bag or a Box incase it lets loose and leeps for freedom. Or you can run some overpressure ammo and they fly right out!!!! Easy Peasy.
