Sako A 11

I own a sako A II Varmint chambered in 22/250. By the serial # I believe it was made around the time that Sako chambered the 6mm PPC. If I were to rebarrel this rifle to a 6mm PPC would it be a straight barrel change or would there be a need to have some bolt work done as the 22/250 has an appx .470 bolt face vs the smaller PPC bolt face. Murray....yes, the bolt face would need to be either reworked or possibly the bolt replaced. I'd suggest you contact Accuflite as they are real Sako experts and may be able to help you with either the rework or a replacement bolt.

I know you didn't ask this but doing a 6BR (works with your existing bolt) would be slam dunk simple. ;)

Hope this helps. -Al

In that era the ppc was a factory option in the A1 / L l461 short action.

When they went to 75 model they were going to do a 1 series for 222 / 223 etc and a series 2 which was going to be specifically for PPC and 7.62x39 BUT they canned it and made just made the PPC fit the 3 series action with a spacer in the back of the detachable mag. Those sako 75 series 3 are the medium length action that would be equal to your A2 action.

Soooo I can't speak specifically about the A2 but I have a few 75s in the 3 series action and one of those is a factory 6ppc and I've played with extracting ppc rounds from a ppc chamber using the 308 bolt. It extracts ok but it's a little loose so may not be 100% reliable when it comes to actually ejecting.

The way the extractors are you may be able to manipulate this a bit by grinding down the inner face of the extractor so it can close in further to meet the smaller head diameter and reduce the clearance between the extractor, case head and opposite side bolt face rebate to give it better support until ejection. So with a bit of work on the extractor you may get away with not having to perminantly alter the bolt. Swap the extractor and your pack to 308 case head. . Happy days!

Feeding may be another story and something I can't test for you with what I have. The 22-250 may have a slight hope if the feed rails are set up for the tapered case. The 75 uses a specific mag that has a very nicely made spacer block in the back and the feed lips are a lot further forward and the feed flawlessly

Nice Sako Aii with target trigger and heavy barrel (22-250) on gunbroker. pretty nice wood. price (now) is pretty good. Not affiliated. FYI there is a pretty rare 308 same specs listed now (GB) that is pretty darn rare.
