sako 995 drill and tap

Have a friend that wants a weaver rail for this gun, the action is so long you can't use all but very long scopes with the Sako rings.
Anyone drilled and tapped one of these for a rail? Are they super hard or were you able to do it with regular quality drills and taps ?

I have the same gun, and was faced with the same problem. My solution was a Richard Near rail he mills it out of SS and it uses the Optilok dovetails. When I talked to Richard years ago he told me I should glue it on with marine tex or drill and tap. He told me he had done many and that the action was as soft as butter and would drill and tap easy. I would use a cobalt drill and tap slow and easy cleaning and reversing often. the Near rail removes all the pain , mine was Marine Tex glued over 10years ago and has been fool proof. I bought my 995 from CDNN and they had a bunch that were sold off when Beretta bought Sako. I wish I had bought them all.
