Sako 6PPC USA rifle

I have an old Sako varminter in 6PPC, it is a single shot rifle and I would stick my neck out there and say it is one of the if not the most accurate factory rifles ever made. I've had this gun since the 80's and have shot many many rounds through it and it still shoots in the 3's consistently and even better. I believe Sako was the first manufacturer to come out with a 6PPC and 22PPC chambered rifles and others followed. My question is, why did Sako stop producing this fine rifle? I would assume it just didn't catch on and any idea what the value of this gun might be.

I'm sure it had something to do with Louis Palmisano and Ferris Pindell who owned the rights to the 6ppc which they later sold. Dakota owns the rights for the 6ppc and I think Rem owns Dakota now, Pindell kept the right for the brass which Sako also made.

I've got one in 22ppc value??? alot has to do with condition I've seen then from $800 on up. Mine has the target trigger which I heard they replaced on later models. Well good luck

Very nice rifle , I would like to own one , but most are shot out and have not been taken care of . The last two I saw at gun shows were in the $800 price range , but bores were horrible per my standards . One of the reasons the demand has gone down is the price vs what you can buy and build that will shoot a hundred times better . You can build a darn nice 6PPC with a Krieger or Hart barrel , for about $1500 that will out shoot any Sako barrel . Todays custom barrels are far and away better than any factory barrel . Just bore scope one and see !

I beg to differ with you LCazador. I am betting a custom built rifle probably will out shoot my Sako 6PPC USA varminter but not by more then a fraction, if that. The gun I have will consistently shoot in the 3's, believe if or not and I own custom rifles and not many of them shoot this good and if a custom PPC would shoot better then my Sako then it would be in bench rest shooting. My gun is 95% and my barrell is still in great shape and if we are talking about the same gun, anyone who has owned one will tell you the same thing I am saying now. You are probably correct in saying the older guns, if they were used are past their true accuracy but mine surely isn't. And your comment that they will shoot a hundred times better, just isn't so.
Just my opinion I could be wrong.

Just one other thing, where can a person find a custom rig for $1500.00 other then a Copper, I'd like to know.

I took my Sako A-1 6 PPC to the Buck Creek, Ky BBB in May
and shot it in the factory class. There were 5 relays with
12 guns in each relay. The little Sako went clean on the 10
balloons and made the shoot-off. The little A-1 won the
3 shot shoot-off shooting a score of 30 with a group in the 0.1's
at 200 yd.

SDH, your's looks identical to mine. Yea I know what you mean about regrets when selling guns, it's happened to me a few times, but I'll never let my Sako go.

A Sako Model A-1 SS# A 007 which a lady purchased for
her husband in 1987 just sold for $3,000 on Guns America.
The lady stated that it was the first one Sako sold to the
public. The first 6 went to magazines for testing. Her
husband read about the A-1 in a magazine and wanted one.
She had to call Sako in Finland to get one. That is what
I call a wife.

I bought # A817 out of an estate that was (and still is) NIB. I had every intention of shooting it when I made the purchase, and mounted a little 1" Leupold VXII 6-18x40 in the factory rings. Still have some Sako 22 & 6 PPC brass, as well as a set of dies. I suppose that - rather than concern myself over its collector value - I should go ahead and find out how it shoots. I've got plenty of H322 & a bag full of 65gr custom BR bullets....

The Sept. 2010 issue of Precision Shooting featured one of these Sakos as the cover rifle.

Just be patient and you'll find one priced right. I paid $750 for a Vixen Hunter in 6mm PPC with a Bauch & Lomb Balvar 8-32x44 scope with sun shade, nice sling, and 40 once fired and 100 virgin cartridges. The rifle was absolutely pristine with gorgeous wood. Of course, I got a dose of stupid and sold it~! Still suffering from seller's remorse I bought a replacement. This one is a Target/Varmint single shot, no scope, no sling, wood looks like a fence post, and it weighs as much as a miniature howitzer. I won't even tell you what I paid for it because you would then know how really stupid I am~!

upload_2017-1-12_13-3-46.png This is with the one I sold, a Vixen Hunter. The rifle was unmodified. I chased the load for about 6 months before I landed on this one. Hopefully my Target/Varmint will shoot a tiny bit better. It certainly has a much finer trigger.
