Sako 22ppc

I'd seen the 22 & 6PPC rifles when Sako brought them out; just never got serious about ponying-up the cash to buy one. So when my friend offered the one out of the estate to me, I hesitated for a moment, then told him I'd take it. When I found that it was, indeed, new in the box with papers, I stumbled over the decision whether to shoot it, or keep it in new, unfired condition. So far, it's still unfired, and I'm shooting the Howa Mini in 6RAT instead. Sure I'm curious as to how well it might shoot, but then I have the means to build myself a custom rifle that would likely out-shoot it by a considerable margin, and the appeal sort of goes away.

I am not sure you could build a custom rifle and out shoot it by much. They are that good! Russ

Kristjain , you have a winner ! Friend of mine loved H322 Powder in his 22 PPC . Dennis , only you can answer whether you want to keep that Sako New . I agree with Russ that you might be surprised at the small difference in Accuracy between the Sako and a true Custom . I remember reading an Article that was titled something like " The Most Accurate Factory Rifle We Have Ever Tested " when the PPC's came out , but I can't remember if was in 22 or 6 PPC that the Magazine Tested . I'm not big on Sako Triggers , but I believe the Target Trigger was a Factory Option . You can tell because the Trigger Guard has a Hole in it thru which you can Adjust Weight of Pull . Those Triggers are darn good . When my Shooting Buddy passed away , his Son called me and asked if I wanted to buy his Sako 22 PPC . I did and hope to shoot it this Spring . My friend was a Gunsmith in Michigan for about 30 years , and that Sako was his favorite Varmint Rifle .

Liked that you got his favorite rifle, condolences on the death of your friend. This has always been a thing, but I think it's going to be happening with more frequency as the shooting generation ages. Take kids shooting! We need to get them interested in these accurate, quality rifles and not just the plastic military styles.

So, Update, I didn't get around to shooting much at all this summer, so the 22 PPC is still an unknown entity to me. I have been priming and prepping brass. Grr. I do have a Sako AI lightweight sporter in 6 PPC USA enroute in the next few days! I won't delay playing with that. I think I'll follow Nek's lead (and my own as I have one on my AII .243) and put a Leupold 6x42 on it. Heck, I'll probably cannibalize the AII to see how it 'fits'. Pix to follow.
