Sako 22ppc neck diameter

20 TAC

Silver $$ Contributor
Hello all. Long time lurker on this forum but figured this would be a good source to get my question answered.
Can anyone tell me what neck diameter Sako used on their factory 22ppc chambers? I plan on using Lapua 220 Russian brass with this rifle and believe necks will have to be turned slightly to allow proper clearance. Before having a chamber cast made I was hoping someone here will know.
Any help offered here is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

20 TAC, Agree, .252 chamber neck diameter would be my best estimate also. The 3rd. edition(2000) of the VihtaVuori reloading manual indicates a max. loaded neck diameter for the 22PPC-USA of .250. Their loaded max neck diameter is usually .002 less than the chamber neck diameter.

Thank you for your help sir. I will turn one piece of brass to a loaded diameter of .249" and then fireform and measure the results. Just didn't want to turn off too much or too little to begin with. Thank you again!

Thank you accurateshooter.com for keeping all these archived threads around. I recently got a Sako L461 in 22ppc. I initally picked up some Norma brass and loaded them up. They functioned great and regularly shoot 1/2 MOA in our local 300 yard varmint matches. I have some unused Lapua 220 Russian brass that I wanted to convert, and "ASSUMED" that a factory rifle would not have a tight neck. Wrong! I was very happy to find this thread that backed up my measurements. My Norma brass measured an average neck thickness of 0.0116 while the Lapua brass measured 0.0150. I now turn my lapua brass down to 0.012, going for a loaded outside neck diameter of 0.248 to 0.249. Excellent info! Thanks again

I know my 22 PPC loaded neck is .249, so you should be good to with your set up and plan. That is with Lapua brass, by the way.
