Sako 223 with 1 and 8 twist

I have a Sako model 75 223 with a 1 and 8 twist and i was just wondering if someone could give me some info about reloading for one. Like which powder i should try and which bullet and how heavy of one. Thanks

Have tried many .223 powders, and I keep coming back to Varget. With that twist, you want to stay with heavy bullets, i.e. 70 - 90 grs. Try the 80 gr. SMK.

I was wondering if a heavier bullet will settle at 100 yards. Im just having problems trying to find a load with this gun.

How you going mate?

Over here in OZ I use AR2208,varget) in my f class rifle with a 1-8 barrel at 26 inches for about 2900fps and a group of about .350 at 100 yards. I use 25.0 gn of powder and federal SR primers.

I am using a 2005 model Tikka T3 Hunter Stainless Timber with the original 8" twist factory barrel.

I think it likely that barrels for Tikka T3 and Sako 75 came from the same production facility.

Off the bench under favourable conditions, it has put 5 shots under 1 inch at 200 yards on several occasions using 60 gn HP Flat Base hunting bullets, from a small-scale local commercial manucfacturer) in front of 24.9 grains of AR2206 and CCI-BR4 primers. AR2206 is a propellant made in Australia by ADI, and according to 'ADI Handloaders Guide 2004 edition', is equivalent to Hodgdon BLC,2).

The above load chronographs at 3,030 fps at ambient 30 degrees Celsius, sea level, moderately high humidity.
