Sako 223 with 1 and 8 twist

I have a Sako model 75 and it has a 1 and 8 twist just wondering if anybody can give me any help with reloading for it. Like what weight bullet and which powder to try. Thanks

I don't reload for .223, but I can tell you that with that twist your going to need heavy bullets like 68s. If the heay bullets should key hole go to a slightly lighter pill.

Dagwood, I load for the .223 Remington and I use both Berger and Sierra 80 gr. bullets, in a 1-8 twist 26" barrel. I use the Sierra's at 100 thru 300 yds and go with the Burgers at 400 and 500.The load I use for the Sierra's differs from the Burgers for some reason, I guess it's because of the Burgers being VLD's. The Sierra 80gr's hold a tight .027 group at 100 yds. on a good day,but only about 4.5" at 500. The load I use for the Sierra's is 24.4gr Varget CCI BR4 primers, Laupa cases, COAL 2.550 . Your COAL may vary from mine since I jam the bullets. The 24.4 Varget is not max. but gives me best accuracy.I don't know the velocity, don't have a cronny. With the Burgers I use same cases same primers, but instead of Varget I use 23.2 gr H4895 powder and again this is not max load, but the most accurate for my rifle. I load almost a full grain under the max according to Sierra's 5th edition hand loading manual. My 100yd average group with the Berger's is a bit larger than with Sierra's, .037", but they shoot better at 500 than the Berger's 2.5",and again that's on a good day,low wind, etc. I've tried the 69gr,75gr Sierra's and the 75gr Hornady Amax bullets but like the 80's better, because I can't seem to be able to get the lighter pills to work in the 1-8 twist.
My wife now uses my .223,I'm working with a .308,without a lot of good success yet. New barrel not broken in and to cold to shoot anyhow. Hope this will be of help to you . John
