SAC Comparator......What am I doing wrong?

LOVE my SAC Comparator sets. I've had none of the problems described above, and they seat perfectly on the cases and bullets for both seating depth and headspace measurements. Only issue was the .338-LM bullet comparator that doesn't get to the ogive because of my required seating depth, but I use the .30 cal version and it works just fine. These give me a much more stable seat than the Hornady versions I used to use. No o-ring, canting, or fit/feel issues whatsoever. I know some had difficulty with these components, but I wanted the opposite view out there too ... since these work flawlessly for me in all five calibers that I hand-load. Sometimes the "pile on" in these threads make it feel like something "never" works, but that's not the case for me. That said, I respect the perspective of those that have struggled ... I'm just not one of them.

Not a "Pile On." Just my observations and the crappy way of handling a customer. I'm not going to do a rah-rah for a company if the product stinks. People spend a lot of money on this stuff and they should know about restocking fees and problems that may exist. If you're happy with it, great.

They never commented on the return that I sent them, just sent a nasty gram.

Would have been nice to know what the problem was, as I wanted something that works better than Hornady. They were stuck on being right and telling me that I didn't operate it correctly, but I think the problems were due to the O-rings.

I have been considering a set from SAC for a while. If I can be reassured that any defects would be quickly replaced without any cost to me, I would very likely purchase a set. The SAC set looks like “top shelf” tools.

Added later: I got to thinking about how I said this and I wanted to clarify that the above goes for any sales. Whether a small purchase or large. We spend a lot of money with businesses. Shooting sports is a very tight knit group of folks and word of mouth is the life’s blood for product sales. I didn’t mean for it to appear that I was pointing out any one particular business.

Truth be told I wasn't in love with my SAC comparators when I got them. I tried them, had the same issues you did and drawered them for a while. Finally pulled them back and and now it's all I use. I hate sounding like this but they're just 'different'. I didn't like the slop but then found when you apply pressure that all goes away. And yes as @rijndael above says, a drop of oil or graphite smooths it all out. I wouldn't let whether yours matches Gavin's mess with you. Throw a draw of oil and give it a whirl, all that matters is if you get repeatable results. Once I saw that was happening I stopped worrying about how the inserts fit because it became a non-issue and is one of the actual good things about the design in the long run. Just my .02 cents fwiw.

This reminds me I still need to make a video on these...
What happened to the accuracy one in the video? I thought you had made the move to that comparator?

I still firmly believe in the A1 tool but what happened is that for traveling matches it just because easier for me to use the SAC because if I forgot my calipers, or batteries ran out or whatever, then I could throw the SAC on anyone's caliper's. That's the only downside of the A1 is that it's dependent on having it and when you travel for matches like I do it just came down to redundancy while away from my home base.
