SAAMI Length vs Actual Chamber Length

The guy who owns my 218 Bee, has been a lazy pig about cleaning it. So -- I thought I'd oughta take care of business and do it for him.

In the process, it occurred to me that I'd never actually measured the chamber on that one for true chamber neck length. I've been loading the stubby little 35 Gr. V-Max's for the most part these days, and frankly it would be nice to have a little more bullet in the neck.

So I made the little doohickey that works for measuring that distance, and found that I could let my cases grow .025", and still have 5 thou. for safety. This also means that I probably won't have to trim a case for this rifle for the rest of my life.

Thought I'd mention this to y'all in case anybody cares. jd

Yea, after I started measuring chamber length with Sinclair, gauge, my trimmer has been gathering dust which is just fine with me. Even applying Sinclair's conservative safety factor, I haven't trimmed any cases in over a year now. :)

Speaking of the 218 Bee, there was a fellow in his 80's that I ran into ground hog hunting several years ago that used the 218 Bee for hog hunting. I can't recall the make of the firearm, but it was a single shot with an old Weaver scope mounted on it. We hunted together a few times and he was quite successful out about 200 yards.

I got my Bee from a fella I worked for when I was 19 years old. He used to go out with the Oregon State Police, and kill deer on damage control hunts. Said that Bee had knocked a bunch on them in the noggin.

I shoot bunches of squirrels with that little rifle, and a lot out to 200. I'm starting to miss frequently at that far. 0 to 150, they don't stand a chance. I've shot a lot of called coyotes with it also. jd
