S&W Shield EZ Owners

I own the above handgun and want feedback from others that also do.
Gave the handgun to my wife to shoot at the range and she said it would not fire. Explained that the grip safety was not depressed. Not a good thing if in a critical situation.
Gave it to an experienced handgun shooter and he also said it would not fire. Told him the same thing and it worked.
I have other handguns with grip safeties, 1911, and do not have a problem with them. Is this an individual problem with this handgun or have others also have an issue with this?

A friend of my me bought one didn’t like. I’m. It sure what the issues were, but he sent it back to S&W for work and then traded it off without shooting it when it returned.

My wife loves hers too. Never had that problem of FTF and neither have I, with my EZ. Picky on ammo as far as grouping goes, but feeds everything so far.

There was a recall on some of these pistols made in 2020, but for a different problem.

Nonetheless, check your serial number and return it if it is within the recall group. Click LINK:

You may otherwise want to send it in if the grip safety really is non-functional.

I have 2 and have no problems with either of them. I just gave 1 of them to my Grandaughter, because of ease of operation. I will say you need to practice with it and get the feel of the grip safety, early on I had one time when the grip safety wasn’t fully engaged and would not fire. I chalked that off to a poor purchase with regards to the way I had it gripped. Changed grip and have not had any problems since. While both the EZ and a 1911 have grip safeties and they work the same, the 1911 will accept a less than desirable grip even from a new shooter.
The EZ takes a little getting used to but once you get a good grip on it they are flawless in operation. A couple of months ago, I took a new to firearms, women out to the range for some practice, she had purchased a Glock in .380 and was having a tough time getting used to it. I let her shoot my EZ, and when she got home she told her husband to sell the Glock and find her an EZ. He has since bought her one and she is really doing well with it.
I alway Push the web of my hand firmly into the grip safety area, whether I am using my EZ or my 1911, it’s just a matter of training, and good habits.

Have an XD9 that is fussy how you grip it. Just another house gun. Have three Government models of different sizes and manufacture. All of them work great even with a limp wrist. These are the only three I own that I would bet my life on.

To those who say their wives shoot the EZ, are they all .380s? My wife shot this handgun in 9 mm and said it was uncomfortable. This was with a handload of 4.1 grains of Bullseye and 124 bullet. Her "normal" handgun is a Ruger LCR in .38 Special.

My wifes is a 380 but I have the 9. They didn't have the 9 when I got her the 380, but she has shot my 9 and declared it OK, but still preferred her .380

So I went to the range today and gave the pistol to three, experienced shooters. I just ask them to shoot it and then I would question them on it. The first shooter had no issues with it. Used to 1911. Second shooter a ex navy sp guy, said the first trigger pull was heavy. Asked him if the cause could be not depressing the grip safety and he agreed. Gave it to the third person and he could not make it shoot.

I am thinking of contacting S&W and see what they say. Nice gun, but do not know if I would depend on it.
