S&S Precision, Denton Texas

Back in August I contacted S&S Precision by email about doing some work on a rifle and they replied they would be happy to do the work and it would take 1-2 weeks turn around time. I shipped them the rifle and let them know it was on the way and they replied they would let me know when they received it. They received it September 3rd. Since I hadn't heard I emailed them September 10th to verify they had received it and they replied yes. On September 25th I emailed asking for an update, not so much to pester them but I didn't want to wait another month only to find out it had been shipped long since and was lost in the mail. The answer was "It is on the workbench it is fifth in line to get on the lathe"

That is the last I have heard from them. I emailed several times and called and left messages but no reply I was worried the covid thing may have affected them but a google search turned up the owner, Stick Stark died July 8th. RIP Mr. Stark.

I have had super bad luck with gunsmiths in the past, terrible work, rifles lost and never returned, 1 month turn around taking years, etc. etc. I am beginning to fear the worst right now and I really don't want to loose this rifle. I'm optimistically hoping that things turn around and go well for them and normalcy returns.

Does anybody know the current situation with S&S?

By all accounts Sticks was a great man and I wish all his family and friends the best. If they need more time to resolve this I'm good with that, stuff happens. I'm just putting out feelers for intel so hopefully I don't get caught behind the curve.

Update: I talked with Mike, the owner of S&S, last night. He assured me the rifle would be ready to ship today.

Seems their website is out of date, Sticks sold the business years ago and hasn't taken part in it for sometime. It was incorrect on my part to think his passing had an effect on this situation.

Digging up an old thread here, hut how did the build turn out for you. Thinking of dropping of a barrel/action with Mike here in the next month or so. Can't find much in the way of reviews, except from a 2016 post on here with folks raving abiht Sticks work. Safe to assume he left it in good hands with Mike and folks are pleased?

mike does good work. be prepared to wait and don't expect much feedback or communication. but the work is good but lengthy

I know it's a PITA having to wait on work to be done. The other side is they can't do work if they're tied up answering the phone. They did great work in the past and I have no doubt they still are doing quality work. Hate it we lost Stick. He was a great guy.
