RWS target rifle 22 amo ?

I would like to read some reviews on this ammo, good or bad and what it compares to.

Before it got so expensive and hard to find it was the best ammo in my ULA bench rest rifle. I'm talking about RWS 50. I have used Laupa Center X since I got really low in RWS (about a brick left) and while it is great ammo the RWS 50 shot better in my gun. I have not used much Ely as the black box I used did not shoot well in my rifle. In fact, nothing shoots as well as RWS and Center X in my rifle. My Anschutz 1416 likes the Center X over the RWS. Wish I could find "cheaper" ammo that would shoot as well!

I have an Anschutz 1413 Super Match that shoots "RWS Target Rifle" OK, at short range (50 ft. indoors). But at 50 yds. and beyond, it doesn't compare well to top of the line target ammos like Lapua Center X and Midas or Eley Tenex. Nor would I expect it to compare well to RWS R50 either, given the significant price difference between them. So truly, it depends on what your rifle likes and what level of accuracy your chosen discipline requires.

I used RWS Target as my training ammunition for many years and it shot great out to 50 meters and was much cleaner than other brands. At the time, I was using R-50 for matches out to 100 yards.

RWS Target is a base line standard velocity target ammunition in their overall product line. A comparison would be SK Standard or Eley Target.

A step up would be RWS Rifle Match or RWS Special Match - which would equate to Lapua Center-X.

Is RWS Target top of the line? No, but it does serve very well as a reliable training ammunition.

R50 is the top-tier RWS ammo. It's performance in a particular rifle will vary by lot. That's to say one lot can shoot very differently than another.

The same is true of all match ammos. Different lots of Lapua or Eley -- whatever the variety or grade -- can shoot differently in the same rifle. It's not the name on the box of ammo, it's the lot number printed (or stamped as in the case of RWS) that a rifle "likes".

I have to agree with grauhanen on the R50. I have used two different lots of it in my CZ and one of them was an absolute stand out. The other was pretty good too, but I have shot far cheaper ammo such as CenterX that out shot it in my CZ 455. My Vudoo seems to shoot a good lot of CenterX as good or better than even the better lot of R50.

It had a huge ES last time I chrono'd it just saying. Have to test what YOUR rifle likes, however.

Lapua, Eley are best in my rifle. Followed surprisingly by CCI SV.

In my Walther there is a very noticeable drop in accuracy from RWS 50 to RWS Target Rifle. Same with my Savage Anschutz.

This is not because your rifle doesn't like RWS R50 and prefers RWS Target Rifle. It will "like" R50 just fine if you get a different lot. Equally, there will be lots of Target Rifle that do very poorly in your rifle. Performance varies by lot. You've got the wrong lot of R50.

I use RWS target exclusively as I shoot indoors and mainly standing practice. I am on my 4th or 5th case of it. Using now at 50 yds, again standing practice and it shoots well. I took a friend out yesterday and it shot on the 50 yard nra smallbore target pretty good off the bench in some pretty stiff winds. My friend shot a 200 with probably 10 more x's in those winds and has never really shot this type of shooting before, just hunting.

What I mean is my Walther and SA both shoot RWS 50 much more accurately than RWS Target Rifle. Sorry that was not clearer.

Tried some RWS Target Rifle today in my t1x, but wasn’t a good fit. Lots of vertical. To be honest I shot some Federal Range Pack and it shot way better then the RWS.

As R50 is their top of the line ammo (and at least 2 levels above Target), I would certainly expect - yet not guarantee - that result.

As you can see, with 22, its what YOUR rife likes.... not necessarily what works best for others.

I have shot 1,000's of rounds of RWS Target, I shoot it as my 50' indoor 4p ammo. It shoots well enough for A-17 targets, but I wouldn't pick it as a benchrest ammo. Any off shots are MY fault! Never had a misfire. It's quality, but it's not the best.

Hope this helps,
Scott

I haven't shot RWS R50 because I haven't been able to get any, but the Anschutz boys did for the 50 metre test card for my 1416 DG Classic. It's a "one holer " ..well.. but with 4 shots just making it . Perhaps the next lot might have tightened that hole! I have some R50 due soon , so we'll see, although I won't be clamping the barrel as the did in the factory. I recently compared SK Standard Plus with SK Rifle Match and concluded that, at 50 yds for 10 shot groups, Rifle Match has the edge with significantly fewer , and closer, outliers.
Grauhanen is right about Lot Numbers; my last two blocks of Standard Plus were pretty good , and the same lot, but the previous block was not inspiring.
Can anybody tell me why, in this age of amazing technology , there is SO much variation in standard.? I am prepared to pay a premium for hunting ammo that is guaranteed to be consistently reliable, and I'm sure I'm not alone here.
Anyway, that's my moan, and my first post!

I wish I could find the R-50 lot number Walther tested my KK500 with. I know test targets aren't that important, but it looks like R-50 is a good place to start. And of course I have everything but R-50 on the shelf.
