Can any one tell me why I can't find any 22 rimfire amo of any kind.
I just want to buy a box or so of 22 long rifle. As far as I can tell it is not available any place in the USA. Why?
Dale

Because people have been buying it all?

More seriously...

Everybody has a .22lr, and the ammo is relatively cheap when it's available. If you're going to hoard, a brick or 10 of .22lr is an easy decision.

You haven't gotten out much in the last six months, have you? :o

There are a few reasons. You really need to google these things.
December 14, 2012.
DHS buys ammo
potus wants weapons ban
colorado anti gun legislation
connecticut anti gun legislation
NY anti gun legislation
NJ anti gun legislation

This is a rumor
govt tells ammo makers not to sell to civilians

OK I am done giving you grief.

There are many who do not plan for the future and never really have more than a box or two of ammo. Everyone is trying to get a supply for the future. As supplies are short as they are.

I was told along time ago. A person with a semi-auto battle rifle knock off should have at least 10,000rds.

some facts to the below statement.
when the gov buys ammo it is typically on a FUTURE delivery contract...it does nto affect todays supply
colorado is still a progun state with shall issue on concealed carry, suppressors legal, full auto legal massive gun ownership, lots of ranges and events.....

the reason is clear...people do not trust thier government..and since the election ammo has been a fast moving item..i have sold out at EIGHT consecutive gun shows.
that is ammo.
the shootings have produce some antigun laws..which may or not stand. the supreme court has said in black and white the mil style guns are covered by the 2nd ammendment..so i expect them to support that use of the MAGAZINES similar to the military...20 and 30 s..hi cap pistol.
gun sales are brisk due the anti gun ruling by some states....not sure if the rules will stand in light of the supreme court rulings.

and then there are some people with little facts and lots of credit cards...

Panic buying - created by ourselves not the anti gun crowd, not the liberal media, not the anti gun politicians - We've met the enemy and the enemy is us.

If everyone would have just maintained their normal buying habits this would not have happened. It's very similar to a run on a bank - panic sets in and bingo - everyone tries to pull out their money and the bank goes under.

In my 40+ years of shooting I've never seen anything like this - a fight almost broke out last week at a local gun shop over a box of 9mm's. It's a sad commentary on our society. I wonder what's it's going to be like when the economy final folds and fold it must with a 16+ trillion national debt and rising everyday with no end in sight. Sorry didn't mean to preach but I'm disgusted with the whole situation.

+1

I share in your disgust.

people's list is a pretty good one for reasons why. However the real reason is much simplier.

"Obama Wins Re-election"

Those few words scared unscarable men to take drastic steps.

i do not know if it is "us"...
i think some of the liberals, that shoot and own guns..may actually start this and then it just snow balls.
i do not buy ammo except for 7.62x39 and i have plenty....i shoot 22 but have nearly a liftimes worth that i bought a $1/lb some years back....i load everything else. i stock well so that this crap typically does not affect my personal shooting.
my business is different..i cannot buy powder. primers and bullets .why ?cause when there was no ammo, they bought components........most distributors have shut down thie rorder lines till things smooth out.
i'm sure i will survive.....its just a hump to get over.
i'll tell you the same thing i tell my customers...
IF YOU DO NO TNEED IT TODAY...DO NOT BUY TODAY....WAIT.

AP just posted an online article on ammo shortage and buying.
one of the rumors that was pointed out as an error was government buying it all up.
specifically homeland...a 5 year future contract for 1.6billion rounds...in the furture over 5 years.......
that is 1500 rds per person per yr.....125 rds per month for use/practice......
