RWS Brass opinions for those with experience.

I am interested in RWS brass. I would really appreciate the opinions of others with experience with this brass in any calibers.

Also, I have searched but can't seem to find there web site listing what caliber brass they have available in manufacture
Anyone have a link?

I used factory RWS 243 96gr in my 243 Ackley when I first got it to good effect. I've also some 308 RWS target ammo in the cupboard just now.

The 243 ammunition shot well and reloaded well.

I have 50 RWS cases in 223 Rem, and love them.

A friend had bought some Black Hills 223 premium ammo, and gave me the once-fired RWS cases. The neck wall thickness variation is well less than .0015", most are close to .001". The casehead printing is not deeply stamped like every other case I have seen, it's etched very faintly, and difficult to read.

Mine were first fired in an AR-15 w/ a Wylde chamber, but surprisingly they measured out exactly the same as other brass fired in my Rem 700 VS - both shoulder length and diameter near the base. Unlike Win and Rem brass I have used in my rifle, the RWS do not show an obvious expanded pressure ring near the base - looking at the cases after cleaning, it's not obvious they're not new and unfired. I cannot explain why.

I've opened newer boxes of Black Hills ammo in stores since, and not found any RWS brass, I think it's all Lake City now. Sure wish I could find some more like mine.

If you have some you are lucky. If you can afford new...even better. The only place I have seen it for sale is www.huntingtons.com. Expect to pay close to $2/Piece for 308 by the time you receive it. That being said it is great brass. I had a friend give me 100 cases when I started F-T/R. He did not know how many times he had fired them, but I got another 3 seasons out of those cases.

Stay safe,

The RWS brass is thicker on most. It is also very hard especially down the body. I had 8x68S necked to 30 and IMP slightly, close to a 30 BOO BOO. It is tough brass. Usually you can't shoot as much powder because of reduced capacity. Matt

I had heard it was harder in the body, too. I annealed necks/shoulders of the whole batch after the second firing.

As for capacity, I'll check H2O capacity and compar to Win and Rem.

I have reloaded my 300 ack RWS brass about 15 times and primer pockets are still tight. Which I could find more at a resonable price.

Supposed to be the 'Cadillac" in the .22 Hornet lineup. I bought 100 to fire-form into .17 Ackley Hornet however the R-P cases haven't worn out yet, Dooh! ;D

Hi Brains 356, I would really be interested in the H20 capacities of the RWS vs Winchester and Remington, if you have the time. :)

Has anyone experienced unexpected primer pocket enlargement or any problems at all?

Sure. I've also got some Lake City brass in 223 Rem.

Had great luck with it in 300 WM. Got some that's on it's 10th loading. (due to the LarryWillis collet die).

It's not quite as nice a Norma, but it holds up longer. Our riflesmith hates is because virgin brass has inconsistent outer dimensions, but after you fire it and get it into the rotation, it's good stuff.

I have about 120 RWS cases. I really like the Rem brass, seems to have pretty consistent neck tensions, and they prime very well. Wish I could say the same about my LC nato brass, dam that stuff is TOUGH and inserting the primer is a real PIA !

I bought some RWS 404 jeffreys brass to make RUM and Dakota cases. Much tougher than the Dakota cases I had been using. Primer pockets stay tight. I've fired them as many times as the other cases and the primer pockets are tighter than the dakota brass when it was new. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

I brought the rest of the RWS 7x57 brass that Natchez had when they closed it out about 5 years ago. I turned the necks and necked it down to 6mm on 5 or 6 boxes. Use it for both my 244 and my 6mm rem ackley. Super tough brass. I was wrecking primer pockets with RP brass after 2-3 firings in my 6 AI. I have 10 plus firings and going strong on my first batch. Plus I have bunch of put away for future projects. I did give 3 boxes to a buddy that built a 7x57 with his dad as a father-son project. How can you say no to that...

Luck, Tim

I have also used RWS 7x57 brass for a hot 6mm (6mm Crusader) I was pushing 115gr Dtacs at just short of 3300 fps and had 17 firings out of the cases and they were still usable.

As far as I'm concerned RWS brass is the benchmark that no other manufacturer reaches.
