I killed a large rutting buck late yesterday afternoon with a neck so large he looked like his head was sitting on his shoulders! No pic....camera out of batteries! Shot was made from 327 yards...stopped with his right side to me and I put the bullet just aft of the shoulder blade. His nose hit the ground first and not even a kick....quiver! 22/250 shooting the 90 gr. Sierra HPBT. Trashy racked 7 pt. that was old...and headed down!

Very cool!! That 90 grainer probably hammered that buck! My 15 yo son hammered a buck and doe running together today here in Pa. shooting his custom .243 Model 7 with the 80 grain Barnes TTSX bullets. Agreed X1000 no need for big 300 mags etc. I used to subscribe to that theory but no longer.

Not possible, you simply can't kill a whitetail at that distance with that little gun. Kidding of course, nice job.
Good kill brother always good to hear about a clean ethical kill. I hunt with a 22-250 and as stated you don't need a canon if you know you can make a good clean shot. Even with a 30001 Magnum fur guided Berger ballistic tipped accubond solid core boat tail boooolit you can wound and not kill.

Congrats on your trophy! I agree, overbore does not trump a well-placed shot from a smaller cartridge. Your 22-250 has plenty of boiler room and it would appear much of its energy was expended within the deer. Congrats again.

This thing was unbelievably big, 304 lbs. It had 6 brow tines and was just a mean looking devil. Only 12" spread and scored 168 with all the mass. I forgot what the bases were but you can imagine. If a 22-250 can kill that thing then ...

No...not in Kansas. Flying up Saturday morning for a few days there. Was right here close to home! Saw another 'bruiser' of a buck....probably a 22" wide rack....wide and heavy but didn't have a chance at him! Buck I killed was old and needed taking down; his rack was all it was ever going to be. I could smell fresh link sausage and backstrap so he had to go!

Deer dont seem to recognize what size bullet they are hit with. my 13 yr old son and I shot a buck and doe this weekend at our place, cut his heart in half. He hit the buck first at about 200 yards with a 105gr VLD-H 6XC, dropped him in his tracks with barely a quiver. I hit the doe at about 185 as she ran to the side and then stopped. 6.5 Creedmoor, 140gr VLD-H, through left lung and out right shoulder, blew part of her leg/shoulder out ad left a 5 inch wide hole, she jumped and ran off. Tracked her for over 100 yards. Buck weighed about 175ish, doe at 100+. Guess he thought he got hit with the 6.5 Creedmoor and vice versa. Stupid deer. That being said, I do like to take enough gun....and never know when we might get to see a bear (first year we have had a season since I can remember in our county)
Over 60 years of hunting whitetails I've shot them with a bunch of various cartridges:
30 M1 Carbine, 30/06, 7MM Mag, 300 Win Mag, 30/30 Win, 300 Weatherby, 35 Remington, 300 Savage, 444 Marlin, 45/70, 308 Winchester, 45/90 Sharps, 50/90 Sharps. Most were hit standing broadside; some right behind the shoulder, others shot through both shoulders....including also many nice mule deer. And generally the only ones that hit the dirt right where they were standing were those that were struck destroying their central nervous system aka damage to the spine or neck area! None however ran over 150 yards from where hit! I've shot probably almost every type bullet available excluding FMJ; all were handloads. I haven't shot a factory cartridge since 1948.

I killed a big bodied 8pt buck this year with a 22-50 loaded with a sierra 65 grain gameking. First time I've ever shot a deer with a 22 cal and I was very impressed to say the least. Deer went maybe 30 yards and piled up. When he was hit he looked like it and I knew he wouldn't go far. Very pleased with this combo so far and on other game as well.
