Rust, light pitting on bead blasted stainless barrel

Guys even though the barrel is made out of stainless steel it isn’t made out of surgical stainless steel.

The SS gun barrels will corrode/pit. They are more forgiving then CM steel barrels but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of them. Wiping them down with a light coat of oil or Hoppe’s etc…will help protect them. Inside and out.

I cannot tell you how many times over the years I’ve seen SS barrels with corrosion on either the inside or outside.

I have scoped and replaced more corroded SS barrels than carbon steel . When I started in the late 70s early 80s , stainless was a fairly new to the general public item . They were believed to be maintenance free concerning rust . I usually got a blank stare when I asked how you cleaned it and what kind of rust protection measures you used . Generally it was in the bore of hunting rifles under layers of carbon . Little tin worms as I called them . Just say stainless slow , yes it stains less .
