Russo Stocks?

I worked with Joel back in February to get a stock made for my Bat bench gun project. He was a pleasure to deal with and felt confident about the deal. Well now I can't get ahold of him and getting concerned about the deal. He has my action is my biggest concern. Has anyone talked to him lately? He followed up with me a few months back as he didn't have the original color I was wanting and we made the change to a different color. Now it's silence.

I had the same experience with him about three years ago. After four months of trying to get a response I gave up. Not worth my time , or money, to deal with him. I must say though, the pics of his work are very impressive.

I have one of his stocks, which is pictured in the following thread and somewhere on his website:

This rifle took over two and 1/2 years to receive. Some of that was due to the individual doing the metalwork. My experience and that of a few others I know of, was that he takes a very, very long time to finish the work. Much longer than I ever would have expected. Frankly, had I known how long it would take, I would not have gone that route. However, the work is beautiful. Further, I got along very well with Joel and never had any major difficulty in contacting him. Sometimes it would take a while to hear back from him, but he always responded. I think part of that is his personality and work style. You'll get your work done...eventually...and it'll be absolutely beautiful when you do receive it. Joel is simply not the type to stiff someone, so I wouldn't worry about that at all. But don't expect great speed. He was actually pretty good about sending me pics an updates during the [long] build, so I didn't need to contact him all that often. Just have some patience and keep trying and I'm sure it will all work out fine.

Joel Russo has teamed up with Chase Curtis to produce a new line of rifle actions, bottom metal and magazines. I think this new adventure has consumed most of his time. Production delays have kept them pretty busy and hard to make contact with. Their actions are not available yet. Go to www.CurtisCustom.com for his contact information.

Ive had Joel do several stocks for me over the yrs, never ever had an issue. Time, well time is proportional the qaulity of the finished product. And with Joel's attention to detail, there are very few better.

Echoing Gstaylorg's response. Joel has always kept me in the loop and provided pic updates. His demeanor and professionalism is top shelf with a high value of personal integrity.

Bear in mind along, Russos stockwork is a side gig done outta love for love of wood and steel. He has a fulltime day job, partnered up on the action project and he is very active with his two young boys/men.

Russos word is platinum... hang in there, its worth it.

Trying to get a Russo stock and dealing with that has been about the same experience as dealing with Dave Kiff, I tried for over a year to get a stock made, never would return phone calls, used the wood I picked out twice for other stocks and generally feel he was full of BS, I got the impression that since I had a strict budget, though I had saved up and had the cash in hand he just didn't want to bother with a regular customer.

Joel made a stock for me a couple of years ago. Top shelf work. It took about a year, and to me that wasn't an issue. I've waited up to 4-5 months for rifles and up to 3-4 years for pistols to be built. Depends on where you are in the line and how long the line is, and how much the builder has going on. He also did a very good repair and bedding job on one for me. That rifle is a hammer.
joel.russo@libertymutual.com is a pretty good contact email, though I haven't emailed him in several months.

One thing you can bank on, is you will never be disappointed in Joel's work no matter how long it takes...
Patience is a virtue.............
