Runout issues, please help

Hi guys,

I built a 6.5x270wsm. I am using Redding dies across the board. I am using Norma 270wsm brass and Berger 140vld's. I am using the Redding 270wsm neck die with a .293 bushing (for the 6.5). I am using the Redding Competition bullet seater for the 270wsm as well. All reloading is being done on a RCBS Partner press.

I am experiencing .005-.006 of bullet runout on loaded rounds. Can you guys tell me whats going on? In the research i have done .001-.002 is best for accuracy. Is the amount of runout going to affect accuracy?

Without seeing how your dies are set up in the press I have three suggestions that may help.
1. The straighter you start the bullet in the neck before running it into the die the less run out you will have.
2. Your dies are 7/14 thread. There is some slop (play, whatever you want to call it) between the threads of the die and press. To remove this play run a case into the neck sizing die with the decapping spindle removed and the die locking ring loose. Keeping pressure on the press handle and with the case in the die tighten the locking ring. This works for body and seating dies also.
3. When seating bullets run the case up 1/3 into the die. Turn the case 90 degrees in the shell holder and run it up another 1/3, turn case 90 degrees and finish seating the bullet.

is this runout before fire forming? if so, thats no big deal, now if this is after forming, then then there is a problem.

Thanks guys. I have not assembled the rifle yet, i was just playing and loaded a couply dummy rounds. When i rolled them on the table i could see visible bullet runout. Putting them on the gauge confirmed it both in the bullet and on the case neck. These are new unfired cases. There isn't any runout (very minimal) on the untouched 270wsm cases.
