Running a chargemaster on a car battery?

I am wanting to make up a cord to run my chargemaster of the cig lighter in my truck. Will this damage the unit? I think there was a guy selling a battery setup, anyone know if he is still doing this?

I am pretty sure the Chargemaster calls for a 9vdc supply. I have a pretty good background in electronics and would say that feeding it with "12" volts (resting voltage of a 12v car battery is generally around 12.8v and when the vehicle is running it is around 14-15v) probably will not kill it....it will most likely run much faster.

I personally would look into a sealed 9v high current reachable battery for portable use or a HIGH QUALITY DC to AC inverter and use the Chargemaster's supplied power supply.

Contact Mike Ezell. He's "gunsandgunsmithing" here. He makes a nice adapter to a small battery. I've been using mine for a couple of years. It's great.

The chargemaster 1500 unit will operate properly on anywhere between 9-16 volts, but works better on a smooth current. A 12 volt battery power supply is best. With a car's charging system, the voltage fluctuates somewhat...similar to a wall outlet in your house or shop does. Smoothing out voltage fluctuations is one a the reasons for using an external 12 volt dc power supply.
I do still make a battery power supply unit with charger and could have one together in a day or so. It's plug-n-play. PM me if interested---Mike Ezell

I would just buy a small clean current inverter made for computers. It would eliminate variance and not harm your chargemaster.

The nice thing about using a small 12V battery, such as a motorcycle or backup lighting battery is that you can charge it from the cigarette ligher/power outlet on your vehicle. Want to limit current (should you feel it necessary) then merely put a replacement tail light socket in series and install a bulb. Wire it to the bright side for higher current or the "parking light" side for less current.

Should arrive at the range with a fully charged battery.
