Rules on Deer/Elk parts going into NY / PA

7BFC8093-26C3-4245-8FF6-51D5650B319F.jpegSo I have a lifetime hunting license for the people’s republic of New York. I live pretty close to the border between the two states in upper Northwest PA.
No matter how many times I read this the end result of my comprehensive abilities to read tell me that NY state ratted me out to PA that i may be bringing contraband band into PA. Which in turn gives PA the info to check up on me. The PA game commission already has way too much power with warrant less searches already and now commie NY hands them my info and says here look at this guy.

Hmmmmm.....

I wonder if this will cut down on the number of NY license plates i see in the area i hunt?

When PA started their opening day on Saturday, instead of Monday the number of out of state vehicles dropped.

Funny, I have seen the same situation here in northern MD with the numbers of PA license plate tags that I see in my hunting areas LOL

NY is well known for being the top national manufacturer of weapons grade stupidity. Has been for a long time and looks to remain so into the foreseeable future.

Florida implemented restrictions on the importation of deer carcass's from Ga. and Al. a couple of years ago. Apparently Fl. is one of 23 states that has not detected any CWD in the herd and are trying to keep it that way. You can bring in de-boned meat and finished taxidermy but nothing else. But you can get a online permit to bring in a carcass but you have to report it to the state within 24 hours and dispose of the remains in an approved way.
We de-bone all deer at my Ga. hunting camp so practically we aren't affected. Many of the Fl. hunters I know feel that getting that permit and then reporting to FWC quite possibly could leave you open to getting a knock on the door and an inspection.

If someone had enough money, they could probably fight the PGC's executive order. Taking a deer to an out of state butcher is commercial trade. Whether or not the PGC or any other state game commission can restrict that is yet to be proven.

I know more than a few Pennsy hunters that have given up their home state and are hunting Maryland and West Virginia. With a book of rules 75 pages thick, changing annually, the PGC is driving hunters to other states with less restrictions.

I honestly do think they are trying to stop the spread of cwd , my real problem is the fact that NY state said “hey this guy lives right there, better keep an eye on him.”

that said I have not brought a carcass back from over the line since 2014. I found an awesome actual real USDA butcher shop that breaks down and switches over to deer in the fall. Then dies total clean and switch back to beef and hog in January. With NY opening seasons a week or better ahead of PA that is a real convenience as I can harvest in NY then flip to PA and not loose out on time.

Many states now "cooperate" on licensing, if your privileges are suspended due to violations other states may not issue. Typically this is a neighbor state action. So a form letter doesn't seem unusual. Online license purchases will also, possibly, get you on all sorts of lists. Even if you check the NO share box.

I have friends that hunt a parcel of land that is in two states, of which one is a CWD state. They have literally seen deer walking across the state line and their hounds run deer across the line on a regular basis. They now just register all of their deer in the CWD free state. ;)
I can't even take a guess on how many deer carcasses cross state lines each and every day of the season. There is no way to control CWD as long as people hunt in states other than their own.

I am so blessed to live here...I can hunt in 4 states. Basically anything goes...stilll like the wild west...
You guys are so restricted, it seems impossible to actually stay within the law (probably the intent).
Hang in there...marc

Sick deer crossing state lines? That sounds like a terrorist act and the Feds should get involved. Maybe Merrick Garland should get involved and get the FBI on the job.. They should be arrested and sent to Gitmo

It's like the illegals. It's ok for them to cross the line but if you bring one over, YOU are the one in trouble.

To me and I am no lawyer , it looks like a common form letter just to warn people to help not to spread the disease. I will bet anyone out of state got the letter as our game laws are different. I doubt they are singling you out and its just a rule they have in place so hunters wont help spread a horrible disease.

I can’t say that I blame the Pennsy guys from coming down into MD. They can maybe kill one or two deer at home, but if they come to MD they can load up. There is almost no limit….
