tthanks Dusty, that's probably what I will end up doing. I am wanting to use ruger precision barrels on an ruger American, hence the need for a nut.

Any reason you can't use the one from the old barrel? Assuming you're replacing a barrel, of course.

I'm taking one of the ruger Americans with the ar15 mags and making it essentially into a ruger precision. I've got a white oak tube handguard to put on it and chassis from indian creek. Only thing missing is the right nut and a new barrel.

Rpr uses an ar15 barrel nut thread I believe

I know the external dimensions are the same as AR15 because you can also use an AR14 armorers wrench on it. I’m not sure if the threads are the same or not, but it could be.

Iirc they are, I want to say we used a WOA match rifle handguArd/ float tube

I want to put an ar15 handguard on the American with a chassis. The only thing I am missing is the nut.

The external threads on the RPR are the same as an ar barrel nut 1.25" but it has internal threads that are 1".
