Finally got the nerve up to finish and verify my load testing with the 7mm mag after having clavical surgery in November. All is good and rifle, handloads and hs precision stock is working great. 150 yards 5 shots 3x9 scope sporter barreloff a bipod cant complain.20220201_170401.jpg 20220201_132755.jpg

looks good - what components in that load( powder, bullet, primer)?

I have a MKII in 7MM Mag as well and it loves the Barnes MRX .... hammers excellent groups as well.

Hopefully your not shooting it prone after clavicle surgery ... or maybe it's one the other shoulder!

This i shot off the bench today to test off a bipod still sits on my clavical though. I should be good now to shoot heavy rifles with brakes it is my shooting shoulder that had surgery but it seems ok so far

Is that with a factory barrel? Good shooting!
Yes factory barrel with sights on it. Factory trigger with a very heavy pull weight. Took the nice wood stock off so it would not get beat up dragging it around. Rifle sat since the 90s brand new. Figured i would finally shoot it. Seems to be a hammer

Awesome deal!

Don’t ever get talked into selling that rifle. That is exceptional performance and precision at a phenomenal price point.

you could spend thousands on a custom 7mm mag and it might not perform like that!!

Dont plan on selling it should last a very long time just hunting with it. Might put a 3x15 power scope on it next. Hard to justify with the accuracy though. Paid $425 for it new. Funny how everyone claims those rifles in that period did not shoot. Guess i got lucky on it. Glad i finally got around to fireing it.

The M77 Mark 2's of that period were some really good shooters. The 7mm magnums were no exception IME. Definately hang on to that one. WD

Worked up a load for another 7mm remington mag. Family member said it wont shoot under 1.5 inches consistently. Cleaned the barrel before. Pretty dirty. Loaded up some test rounds. Had to use new brass as i was unable to bump shoulder back far enough with my redding body die. Guess i need to cut the die or shave the shell holder down. Inter arms 7mm mag seems to shoot just fine 100 yards.20230214_105554.jpgVideoCapture_20230214-134124.jpg20230211_124710.jpg

Similar M77 story. My buddy said his 25-06 was shot out. Wont shoot. Didn't think the rifle had 200 rounds threw it. Was also quite sure cleaning regimen was an 1 oily patch every other year for 20 years. Should have bought the rifle but... I did the right thing. After an hour of scrubbing and pushing patches it shot good as new.

Been awhile new update. finally took out the 7mag with new optic, rings and mount setup. Hopefully a little more solid than what was on it. Nice rainy day to get it dialed in for its first hunt. Only 100 yards this time 5 shots its still a hamner. this new old ruger surprises me every time. little more magnification makes shooting paper a little easier 20251118_103238.jpg20251118_103645.jpg

You must have one of the good barrels for that time period. I know just enough information on Ruger barrels to get me in trouble. If I remember correctly, Ruger was sources barrels that were actually low quality from the manufacturer. I had a M77 6mm, (from that time period) with a medium heavy barrel that would not group if you took the rifle and punched the target with the barrel. I sent it back to Ruger and they installed a new barrel and provided a 100-yd target group that was impressive. Kudos to Ruger. Sadly, that rifle has been a safe queen since getting it back. Hey, I am only 74, there is still time to play with it!!!

I don't think you just got lucky. I think your rifle was produced after Ruger figured out the barrels, they were getting from Wilson were Wilson's rejects. I got one of the Wilson barrels in 6mm and had to have Ruger replace it.
