Ruger rifles do not have modular barrels and each one must be fitted to a particular action
I have a Ruger MKII varmint but have only handled and shot the hawkeye and American. I believe the Hawkeye is just a follow-on the the 77MKII but the American is completely different. The 77 and hawkeye barrels thread into the action against a shoulder on the barrel (don't know if the threads are the same) and the American has a barrel nut similar to the savage. Hope this helps.
