Ruger American Ranch - Which Caliber?

They have the rebate going now for $100. Been looking at ranch rifles for a while. Don't really need one, but with the price. Just don't know which caliber. I reload for all listed except the 7.62x39.

Truck gun for deer, 4 legged predators and 2 legged predators.


What caliber and why?

223. I believe the Ruger comes with an 8 twist (my American does). A 75 grain bullet will give you down range capability and you won't cry over losing a couple cases in the field.

Brass is plentiful and cheap, if not free. It can provide the needed velocity for varmints, or loaded with heavier, expanding bullets for bigger game.

Have shot one , and loaded with heavier bullets , it is a pretty good "Truck Gun" . I'd go with the .223 , and I'm not a big fan of the cartridge . Ammo availability , and costs .
