Edit to add: comparing the preFit barrel I put on with the factory barrel, the edge of the chamber is far less sloped than the original. This might be the problem. Will swap the old barrel back in and try it out again. Apparently on the early ruger Americans this edge was barely angled, probably due to the centerfeed ruger magazine.
My barrel is cut a little more like the ruger precision rifle. This first pic is my factory barrel and the second the same as how my aftermarket barrel is cut.
For a fun rifle, I bought one of the ruger american ranch rifles that uses an ar15 magazine. This is a first for me having a bolt action that feeds out of a double stack magazine.
I think this may explain why it will not feed very well from the ar15 magazines.
